    weak chest flys?

My flat bench is 240 pounds, 3x8, incline bench 185

For some reason my dumbbell chest flys I can barely do more than 45 pounds on each arm, is that normal?

Are there other muscles that come into play with dumbbell chest flys that I may be lagging behind or not training enough?

    Thanks

If your doing those two exercises before dumbbell flys. Your chest is tired to go past that weight right now. Have you tried swapping dumbbell flys for machine flys. That might help with performance and growth. If your wanting to gain more strength in dumbbell flys alone. Do them first then perform flat bench and incline. This is what I would do for your situation.

A totally normal weight, provided your form is good on the fly's.

Thanks, I'll try to do flys before anything else on chest day, I always assumed people could fly 60+ pounds dumbell per arm on chest flys, for some reason lol

    I just got back from my chest workout, and did bench 185 x 10, 205 x 8, 225 x 4, 175 x 10 and 165 x 10

    and after each of those last 3 sets, I worked in a set of fly's at weights of 45 x 9, 40 x 10, and 35 x 10 respectively.

45 pound DBs are pretty good for flyes

I can max out the pec dec machine with 260 but I can only do 45 pound DBs with decent form.

I don't think there are that many people asides from bodybuilders/strongmen doing 60 pound DBs lol

maybe i am wrong, but don't you use more shoulders on bench and incline compared to flyes? also with db's you use more stabilizing muscles. and the fact you do them after your heavy presses.

Yeah, does anyone know what auxillary muscles are used in flys? and what way you can strengthen them? I find sometimes doing them that my form becomes a little shaky, I decrease the weight by 5 pounds, but the next day I have some soreness in my shoulders.

Does the rotator cuff come into play?

I started with the fly maxhine

I was using it for 8 months straight atleast 2xs a week. Got to the point where I was adding 40lbs in plates to the stack and still getting it for 10 reps. I never really used dbs for chest so I decided to switch up my chest routine today. I started with flat bench started light 135 for 20 reps to warm up. Then onto 185 for 10. Then 205 for 8. Managed somehow to get 225 x5 after that. Went to 245 for 1 after that. Then dropped to 135 for 25 reps to close out flat bench.

Usually I go into incline press on the machine but I was looking to change up my routine so I opted for db inclined press instead. Started light. 60x12 65x10 70x10 75x10 80x6 .I could probably go up to 90s if I was able to get the dbs into position but I dont have that skill yet so I didnt.

from there I decided to incline fly with dbs. Never havibg used dbs before for this exercise I didnt know where to start so I started light and went up by small increments until I saw what I was capable of. 20x12 25x10 30x10 35x10 40x10 45x10 50x 10 55x6. I stopped at 6 reps because I was afraid of injury. After that I did multiple sets of pushups in many different variations. If my chest doesnt start to feel sore soon ill feel cheated by god.

anyways I think just because some people have a strong bench doesnt mean they are good at flys. My bench is kind of eh compared to a lot of people. My friend benches 275x 2 and has a weak fly compared to mine. The kid who showed me the db fly today has a wicked strong bench but only flys with 30s.

I feel that since I worked hard on the machine flyes fir 8 months I transitioned nicely into the db flyes. I remember trying db flys with 30 lb dbs when I first started working out 8 months ago and struggled greatly.

    the machine really helped me.

Yes, shoulders very involved with flies

I started to work in heavy DB flyes in the last 6 months and my chest has grown tremendously.
