If you've ever thought, "I wish someone would make bars with my ingredients..."

    Well, now they do!

    You Bars

I designed a couple just to go through the process and see what it's like. They have some good ingredients in the lists, and the best part is the bar you design has ONLY the ingredients you want in it.

Visited that site but haven't checked to see if they ship to Canada or not. Custom made I'm not sure it'd be allowed.
Have you actually tried the bars yet?

No, but I watched the process on the Cooking Channel. They do everything by hand, and the proportions are great. If you can figure on the flavors you like in combination, the bars are pretty easy to design. You also get a nutrition label on screen that changes to show you where your macros stand.

One of the things that hooked me was the custom labeling. Maybe you could have a 35mm Cereal Bar. LOL

There's a button on the design page that opens a window with tips if your concoction sounds disgusting to the program's algorithm.

I'll have to check that out . . . there are some things that I need to stay away from that are in a lot of bars. Might be able to design something decent that I can eat. There are a couple bars I buy when on sale that are pretty good--but sometimes it's not easy to stock up.

That's exactly my problem, so many ingredients I don't want. Boomi Bars are the only pre-packaged ones I would buy before now because the only things in them (the one I bought anyway) were almonds, whey protein, and honey. Now I can get bars without sugar alcohols.

My taboos are chocolate, almonds (basically any mixed nuts), and soy . . . I get kidney stones from them. Unfortunatley I love nuts and chocloate and lots of the bars that don't have those have soy. Sucks.

Kinda gives a whole nuther meaning to chocolate chips!

$40 for 13 bars and ? on shipping? Seems you could gather most of what you wanted in a bar and make/bake your own albeit, they wouldn't have custom personalized wrappers.

It breaks down to $3/bar, though, and that's comparable to bars you buy in the store for the same weight, especially when you take into consideration that you're getting exactly what you want in it. Sure it's more expensive than making your own, but that goes for any food.

You can also log a homemade recipe into DailyBurn (and prolly most other calorie counting sites) and create protein bars there with specific macro and nutritional breakdown. I love LaraBars, but they are much lower in protein than I would like. I took the ingredient list and messed around until I got the protein I wanted but still tasted decent. If you dabble with a homemade recipe first, then you KNOW if it will taste okay. I would hate to fork over the money and have them taste like crap.

Ok so they are so good I actually called the company and let them know! Spoke to Joel over there and let him know about this thread so he can get feedback.

The only thing I would change with the bars, which is something I did not the company, is add 'dates' to the list to help everything stick together a bit more. I will have to see what the sugar content would be after that.

Will be ordering again and next time might do some cookies and trail mix also.

At about $2-2.50 a bar they are the same price or cheaper then the stores. Add shipping and it's a bit more, but I am lucky that they are in LA so ground shipping still gets to me in 1 day

    Anyway....awesome bars!!

Nice! I still haven't gotten around to ordering mine yet. I'm glad you took the plunge first. LOL

I don't think I mentioned yet that I found out about these guys watching The Cooking Channel (Food Network spinoff). You never know where those gems will come from.

Did I mention how much I love the concept of designing a bar with only what YOU want in it?

Would be even cooler if you could select the amount of things such as protein or carbs. I like my bars with a little more protein. I think I am going to order a box for each of my girls with their name on them. They would get a kick out that.

Well the breakdown of calories, fats, carbs, sugars, etc, change as you add things...so you can see exactly what is happening with your bar while you make it. Try it out!

I checked it out the other day, but I couldn't get the protein to go over 14g, even when adding extra protein. I get the Premier brand ones at Sam's for about $1.50 a bar. They have 30g protein, and low sugar. They taste good as well. I do think that site is cool. Just would be cool if you could control the amount of said ingredients.
