Is it normal to experience lower back pain after heavy barbell rows? please help!

Whenever I do barbell rows I experience pain in my lower back after I have finished the exercise. Now i am confused as to whether this is because of improper execution or just my muscles being tired and burning after a hard workout. Do you guys experienced with barbell rows feel pain in the lower back after a heavy workout?

If you are doing bent-over barbell rows, the lower back is recruited, heavily, as a stabilizer of the torso. To a lesser degree with Yates or Pendlay Rows, IMO. Are you maintaining a neutral position, in your lower back?

tp papi93, my lower back tends to be perpendicular to the ground when I do rows, with my knees slightly bent and my face looking at the ground/mirror .

Pendlay (spelling) Rows have a de-load so that will require less stability demands on the lower back. You might want to give those a try. It is comparable to touch-and-go deadlifts/de-load deadlifts. It is much easier to maintain strict form with deloading, IMO.

make sure your tightening your abs when you do it as well just like you would when deadlifting and squating. This will help with support and take some of the stress of your lower back.
Obssession is a word lazy people use to describe dedication.

If your not nervous before going to the gym your probably not working out hard enough (my new favorite quote)

    Soreness yes, pain no.

Depends upon how you're standing too.

    barbell rows pain

I would deff lighten the weight and work on getting you core (abs & lower back) stronger. Then that deff take away all that lower back pain. CJ

Use a belt, it will help a bit. However, the position you do barbell rows from requires a lot of lower back use to maintain position and proper posture during the lift. Lighten up the weight and go heavier on row machines where you can rest your midsection on a pad so that you don't need to use your lower back for support.
