How fast can the average Joe run 100m?

Googled it but didn't find any answers that looked right. Some place said 12-13s and I highly doubt that the average dude working in an office all day can do 100m in 12 seconds.

Other places were 12 year olds on yahoo saying they run it in 10 seconds at school (real cool story)

In America where 40% of your country is clinically obese, you'd have to be tlaking high teens - 18, 19 or even in the 20s surely?

In other countries, say Jamaica, you're probably talking 14, 15 seconds or so for males under 35
Current goal: 3 miles in 18.30

I remember running the 400m in 64 seconds which translates to 16 sec per 100 m. This was in my mediocre long distance runner prime. I haven't got the leg speed to do full sprinting anymore so after having an average joe life for a few years I'd guess this 16s is what I could do now.

Office joe who is 30-50 pounds overweight and sits in his car, sits at work, sits in car, sits on couch, sits on bed repeat every day... I say 16-20 seconds from age 20-50.

lol at you thinking someone who never trains in sprints is only 20% slower than usain bolt the fast man who ever lived.

Those 12year olds are probably not running on a regulation sized track. What is 1/4 of the track for them is only 50 meters or something like that.

Average joe? If he can actually sprint the whole 100 meters, then I'll give him 15-20 seconds.

What is the average age of the USA? 36.7 years (2009 est.)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demogra..._United_States

So how fat is the average 36.7 yr old? 191 pounds in 2002; 25% bodyfat.

    http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/health...tallbutfat.htm

    http://www.healthygo.com/articles/averagebodyfat.php

so 191 pounds at 25% = 47.75 pounds of bodyfat. There is no way an average Joe is going to be running anywhere fast with 47 pounds of bodyfat.

    This guy has it right

In grd 9 I was athletic, but not a great runner.. I was 14.7 seconds. Im taller and stronger now.. I could keep up with the soccer players at my old University (for shorter sprints lol), I'd probably put myself at 12.5 seconds... actually now im curious I want to get clocked

    i lol'd

12 seconds is a respectable time. at age 17 in school, only about 5 boys out of 60 ran 12 or below (in b4 everybody in the misc went to a school where 10 was average). and there were only 3 or 4 fatties in my year at school, plus most boys played football or some other sport at least once a week

your "average skinny guy" sho doesn't do any kind of training is not getting anywhere neaer 12, probably 15-16

    aw hell no

First of all I had a range of 2 seconds. 14 seconds sounds about right, 15-16 is pretty slow for someone who isn't fat.

I'm saying mid to high teens.

So many out of shape, old and fat people out there Its silly. I ran around 12 back in high school and was decently fast for my age group, this was as a 9th grader only year I ran track. Can't imagine out of shape people that have never been into sports running a 100 very quickly at all, if they can even make it to the finish line.

so TONS of people run 11 and a lot run high 10s? lol sounds uncool to barely run 10 flat and be considered world class then. Tyson Gay won with 10.02 the other day, i was watching.

it's like random kids lifting 300 lbs and world class powerlifters lifting 320 lbs... it's like yeah... so what? not really a cool "talent". not even a cool hobby. brb training years to shave off .2 secs. that being said, it's cool to watch the races, but still...

edit - i guess the longer it goes the more distance and time is put between these guys and average people. so im kinda wrong i guess.

Yup, was quite confused when my (at the time) 16 year old friend wasn't far off breaking the world record for 100m lol
On the road to becoming aesthetically pleasing.

Don't take everything said on the misc as fact. Couple of weeks ago in a how fast you can run a mile people said 3min... When the record is 3:20 or something like that
