foot placement relative to the bar

In Weightlifting, what is the optimal placement of the feet relative to the bar?

Bar above the middle of your foot?

or bar over where the toes meet the rest of the foot?

I generally start with lifters placing the bar over the base of the toes. You don't want the bar too close because you'll scrap your shins, too far away and you'll get pulled forward when starting the lift. So start over the base of the toes.

Bar above base of toes. Lifters with really long legs and short torsos might need to move the bar out further.
