    Possibly Installing Tile, Need Help/Advice

I recently volunteered to install tile at my mom's house, and I was basically wondering if any of you had some tips or advice to help me ease this process along.

-The floor now is vinyl, so I am working on ripping it and the current adhesive up
It is on wood, will I need to install hardi backerboard before installing the tile? I read putting it straight on wood isn't a great idea.

-Start in the middle of the room, right? Am I in over my head, it's a pretty big kitchen/dining room area, and I'm a noob with handyman things, but wanted to save some money and learn a nice skill to have.

Any advice appreciated and repped, thanks

Might want to stop at John bridge forums, they should be able to help you out more than here.

I can give you some help if you'd like as well.

I've fixed up a few homes and here's my advice.
1st, you will need to screw down concrete board to be absolutely certain there is no movement in the floor and to prepare for tile. The board should have little circles on it, and each one gets a screw(I know it seems excessive). Make sure the floor is level before you start screwing it down.
2nd, use an adhesive mix that's colored like or closely to your grout color. If it's your first time you'll almost certainly have adhesive squeezing up between tiles. Make sure your adhesive is level and not built up in spots to prevent dead spaces under the tiles.
3rd, I prefer to have as many full tiles as possible compared to just starting in the middle and working outward.
4th, use little spacers between each tile to insure an even look throughout the area.
5th, stay off the tiles once they're laid for 24hrs and grout the next day.
Lastly, after grouting wipe the tiles down with a wet sponge until you see absolutely no grout on the tile. When you think you've wiped it down enough, wipe it two more times.

I don't feel like typing any more detail.

Don't mess around with those cheap tile cutter tools. Just go get a real wet tile saw. I have broken tons of tiles by trying to be cheap. In the end it really bites you in the butt. Just check out this list here:

    https://verycreate.com/best-wet-tile-saw-reviews/

The SKIL brand is less than $100 a lot fo the time. It is worth it. Don't go cheap. You will regret it!
