Thanks for the pic and specs, Cadz. At only 599 shipped I really think anyone considering the Powertec should really look at the Bodycraft as well. 100 dollars more and you are getting a rack with a straight chin up bar and easily adjusted spotters and hooks protected by rubber to prevent chipping and scratching. It seems like they are pretty equal otherwise, but I like the Bodycraft, and would probably choose that over the Ptec.

I have a Parabody with pop pins like the Bodycraft and they are very convenient. But I often wonder if they are really strong enough to stop a catastrophic failure. especially now that my son has started lifting.

I like the overall design of the Powertec but think the accessories are overpriced.

Nick Best has a Parabody in his garage gym. He recently had a video of him performing 1,205lbs rack pulls. Granted, the bar only fell a few inches but the rack didn't budge.

The pop-pin is pretty much the same as the stud on a drop in rack - just retractable.

I had a Parabody rack and was completely happy with it. The shear strength on the pop pins is higher than anyone is going to drop on it. Just make sure all the pins are engaged.

My concern isn't necessarily the pins themselves. It's that they don't go in very far. I would think it would be fairly easy for things to flex enough to fail.

Nice to see that video though. I don't think I'd like any other rack as well.

Drop-ins and even some of the other safety designs use a stud roughly the same length - it's nothing to worry about

I have a drop in style rack and the stud only goes about 1/2" or so past the upright.

Regarding figuring out what you want and need...it's taken me two years to 'figure out' what I needed and wanted in a rack and home gym.

Started cheap, with a rack that had a lat pulldown. Scrapped the pulldown after a while, flipped the rack so I could set the bench in it further, added 2x2 T-2 accessories and so on.

Changed my platform setup multiple times, went though a variety of adjustable dumbbells and iron plates.

Now I have an RML-3, leg press and separate lat machine (plate load), PB Rexan db's, Rep bench and bar nd it's all I'll need. Fortunately between buying cheap and flipping items I was able to get further than trying new and reselling.

So yeah, it'd be nice to know what you need and just BAM buy that. But part of the fun is buying new or almost new used equipment and trying it out.

Made the investment for the Rogue RM-4 back when they had 7 gauge posts and never looked back. Added pieces over time, but don't ever plan to change my rack. Also, I went with bumpers instead of iron plates and would recommend it as well. Let noise and potential for injury. Good luck and happy hunting.

Titan Fitness. Whats the word on that in here? Anyone using one their racks? I am considering their x3 series Bolt down Power Rack. Pretty cheap considering some of the others out there. I would like to go Rogue all the way but it adds up really quick.

Here is a link to the Titan rack I am considering. I don't care about the pull up bar on it as I have a stand alone pull up bar.

If I were buying a rack and trying to save some money, I'd look at Rep Fitness over Titan, but there are fans of both companies.

Thank you for the suggestion. They seem to be about on par with Titan with more options for replacement parts. Repped ya.

Rep is building a very good reputation, at present a lot of their racks are hard to beat within their price bracket..

To someone shopping between the Titan and REP, I would probably explain the difference like this: Titan will be the best value, but in the future you will want higher quality and will take a hit on selling. REP might cost you a few more bucks initially, but there is a MUCH better chance that you'll never take a loss looking to upgrade your equipment. Although I'm sure that largely depends on the piece too, Titan appears to have closed the QC gap on a few items lately.

Although I'm sure that largely depends on the piece too, Titan appears to have closed the QC gap on a few items lately.
Titan is cheaper, but I think REP is actually the better value (more for your money). To be fair, I only own a dozen Titan weight posts and a landmine, but I really have nothing good to say about either other than price.

Thank you for the replies fellas. I bought a titan flat bench and I plan to put it together this weekend.

I am just getting started on my home gym. I still have a gym membership but I want a home gym to teach my son to lift as he comes of age.

I have a couple pieces including a rogue echo bike.

I figured a power rack would be kind of hard to fawk up, however Alan Thrall thrashed titan on their racks.

Idk, I might just go Rogue, it’s only a couple hundred dollars more.

By now, people who buy Titan Fitness equipment should already know the score. You're getting an INSANE cheap piece of equipment because the QC, paint, welds, surfaces might come with blemishes or may not be 100% squared up. Same thing with the people who buy dirt cheap horse stall mats for flooring, the alternative is 2-3x the price so people accept uneven stall mats that smell like they just smoked a pack of lucky stripes to save some money. They ain't pretty, but they do the same job as any other 3/4" thick rubber mat.

REP Fitness makes some awesome equipment no doubt, but Titan has quite a few pieces that are possibly the best value on the market. Titan's lat pulldown w/stack, belt squat, GHD, reverse hyper, SSB, Rickshaw, and other strongman options are impressive these days. But I understand some people have strong feelings against the brand based on their own personal experiences. But at the end of the day, I'm guessing your pegs are holding weight and the landmine isn't holding you back.

I suggest that when you are shopping racks, if you are planning to order one, you run the estimated shipping costs as part of the equation--it's shocking how much difference that can make on something big & heavy & hard to ship such as a rack.

I believe Georgie has a solid used market (depending where). Have you chcked CL or FB marketplace? If you're teaching your son, you'll end up teaching his friends.

Rep Fitness is another company to take a look at. Rogue is generally better, but Rep is getting a lot of good press and wouldn't be a bad way to start.
If you like very nice things, i dont think an R4 will be a grail rack whether you choose to add to it or not. Its great for a home gym but its not commercial quality. I dont even believe the RML series is really commercial. I think if want a rack that you're not likely to want to upgrade to then get a monster rack or something along those lines. I bought an RML and less than a year later upgraded to a monster rack. I love it but if i had known about dynmamic fitness i would have gotten that ...makes sorinex rogue look like cheap racks...and still has 2 inch spacing which is quite rare for the very heavy racks

Correct, not having the lower crossmembers makes the sorinex rogue open designs flimsy side to side even when bolted compared to a hammer strength dynamic or some of the legend rack that have that lower crossmember design. The sorinex rogue etc designs are lazy and cutting costs...By the way I i have a rogue monster rack but I added a lower crossmmeber and have several very large optional crossmembers, bolted and have 1200 lbs loaded onto rack. Some of the racks without the lower cross are incredibly weak laterally. I really do wish rogue would build an option lower crossmember asssembly with bracing like the hammer racks ...

It's been quite a while since I've last posted, so bear with me!

I have an older Magnum open rack that has bare J hooks that I'd like to have protection for my barbell knurling (UHMW? truck bed liner?). Anyone have these type of racks and have a suitable solution? Or perhaps new J hook recommendations?

You can buy UHMW tape on Amazon. It's not very thick, but it's also not very expensive either. Might give that a shot. For new jhooks, just find a manufacturer that makes racks with the same specs as yours and they'll sell jhooks that should work.

I'm pretty sure what used to be Magnum, is now matrix. Maybe they have a little more moder j hooks that will work for your rack?
