In looking at ideas and open to suggestions for a power rack with a 1200-1500 budget. I'm also debating maybe waiting a bit to save some more and invest in a Legend build mentioned ITT.

    Good deal or pass?

How does this rack look? washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/spo/d/squat-rack-power-rack-by/6446504452.html

I purchased a house recently and looking to start a home gym. I've been keeping an eye on craigslist for a little over a month now, and this has been the best piece of equipment so far. I'm thinking $450 is a bit high, and will probably try to counter with $350. I currently have no other equipment, so I still need to buy a bench, bar, and weights at a minimum. No real budget in mind, just looking for a decent deal.

The Parabody 833 is an ok starter rack, but even $350 for just the rack seems high to me. To be fair, I don't like rack-attached pulldowns, so that's not adding much value to me.

I've owned a few of these racks, and one knock I have on them is that they're too short for me to OHP inside, but also don't have bar hooks on the outside of the rack that go high enough for me to be near a proper unracking position. I'm only around 6', so not particularly tall. Due to the welded bar hooks on the inside of the rack, there's also not a pretty way to add new holes so the safety carriage can lock in at a higher position. When I had this rack I would just clean the weight from the floor to start OHP.

Yeah, from looking at similar posts around the forums $450 seems way too high, but I doubt I'll get him to come down >100$. Always worth a shot, I guess. I did see some complaints about it not being tall enough for OHP, but I'm on the shorter side at 5'8 so I'm thinking that won't be a problem.

So I have been pretty much dead set on getting either a Titan T-3 or X-2 rack, but have now backed off a bit. I am now considering the Body Solid GPR378 rack and ordering from Fitness Factory. Can I get some feedback on this rack before I pull the trigger? It seems to get lots of favorable reviews on these forums. I plan on using a Titan flat bench with it. Any input or thoughts is appreciated. Thanks!!

The GPR378 was a much better deal, before they went up in price. Here's a recent thread that might help you...

The comparisons are all in what you want. GPR378 is 80" the Titan(s) are 90". All three are 11 gauge steel (GPR378, T3 & X3) The Titan racks are 'walk thru' design and don't have the cross member that the GPR378 has that may cause issues with your bench, BUT also doesn't require you to bolt it to the floor. Powder coating is likely better on the GPR378 and you'll have a lot more accessories available from Titan and Rogue for the Titan Racks. GPR378 has 3" spacing, while the Titan racks have west side spacing (1" in benching area, 2" elsewhere) The Titan is an import and I don't see the COO for the GPR378. Any of them will be do their job so just pick the features and benefits that suit you the best and pull the trigger!!! Good Luck!

    My requirements:

    Needs to be around $400
Has to be shorter since its going in my basement
Need it to stand alone since I can't use anchors in my rental

That's about it. I won't be using an FID bench and from my understanding a flat bench has no issues with the GPR378 where a FID has issues when doing incline exercises.

Have you checked CL? Depending where in Wiscy you are there may be some good deals near by (or within an hour or so drive)

I have checked CL on and off. I already have a new GPR378 inbound from Fitness Factory, but today I saw a GPR378 for sale for $400 and it comes with BWTG J-Cups. Over the last few weeks I haven't seen much pop up in my price range other then the one I just mentioned.

CL is a waiting game. There are times it is dry as a desert, and others when there is too much to choose between, so you have to get it all. A couple weeks ago I made three pickups in one trip. I haven't seen much since. But I still check several times a day.

Could anyone in the UK recommend a website for good quality power racks? I've come across a few but the products seem to have reviews stating the racks wobble.

My initial budget is around £1000, but I'm looking for a lifelong piece of equipment for a family home and would pay more for quality. I'd really appreciate somebody pointing me in the right direction!

Watson is your first obvious choice. Built like tanks and will customize but you will probably be looking at maxing your budget even on the basic rack.

There is a new company I've seen called iron king, from their Instagram pages their stuff does look good, but they use stock rogue images on their website which does them no favours whatsoever, also their specs and descriptions don't match with the stock images or the Instagram images, I tried asking for more actual images and had a reply, they seemed nice genuine guys but until they can sort their website out I personally wont try them, even though their prices seem amazing at the moment.

The ATX line via thegymrevolution looks like a quality line up, I've seen a few videos of the german made pieces from ATX and Barbarian and they look really precise and clean.

I picked up a bargain bench from a gym in Kensal town yesterday who had just outfitted their place with racks from BLK BOX, looked solid and customizable.

Decide what you want, a single cage, 6 post, sumo base or flat foot and go from their, there are plenty of options but buying new will probably eat up your entire budget and more.

I'd agree with this , Watson gear is pretty much indestructible, ATX is also excellent quality, given your budget a 4 post rack from Watson or AtX , once you factor in delivery is going to be just over your budget.

If your'e looking for a 6 post rack with plate storage and space is not an issue, the Gym Gear Sterling rack is very good, it's the best rack that I've seen from a Chinese manufacturer, but it's also going to be a bit over your budget.

New old rack. Was a custom build by some fabrication place for a strength coach. 3x3 11ga tubing, sides are fully welded. 3" spacing. 90" tall, but at 6' it's tall enough for me to thanks to the welded sides. Needs a paint job and a few things upgraded. Fit into my basement with some grease and prayers.

So YOU were the guy that got this. I was on my way back from Hayward and hoping to pick it up, but you beat me to it. Congrats on it, looks solid.

Did a search of this thread and didn't see Vulcan mentioned. Generally their products seem to get good reviews, but I don't see much on their racks. Any thoughts?

Based on the quality of their other stuff, I might just pull the trigger and take a chance when their flat foot rack comes back in stock. Need one that doesn't bolt to the floor. Yes, the price isn't really that much less than Rogue RML-390F, but Rogue adds tax and shipping that makes it very substantial.

Since someone PM'd me asking about how the paint on my CrossBox rack is holding up, I figured I'd post a few photos. Let's start with the worst of it..

This is one of the uprights. This is actually not from regular use, this was caused by my dumb ass when I kept setting the spotters incorrectly (one hole higher than the other side). The arm would make contact with the upright every time I moved them, and I thought this was normal for some reason. Westside spacing owned me for the first few weeks lol.

Spotter arms. This is from squat and bench press failures. For the first few weeks I had the spotter arms installed incorrectly, leading to one side of the spotter arms being higher than the other. Whenever I would bail, the bar would roll to the low end, resulting in the paint wear.

Jhooks. This is from the barbell knurling and from me clipping the hooks a bunch of times.

And bonus pic of (OMG!) rust on the inside of the uprights. There have been a few threads now of people who question the quality of their racks based on finding rust on the inside of the upright. It's a very, very common thing and will not affect the integrity of the rack for a very, very long time.

Aside from that, the rack looks just as good as the day I bought it. Still not bolted down, but stable as hell now that I've got 1,000 lbs stored on the rack.

I actually have a T3 rack, use it most days, and have had it for 4 years. I turned it into a 6 post before Titan offered the kits. I've said this many times before, it has ALL the function of a Rogue R3 (or other 2x3, 11g rack) with a little less aesthetics for about 1/2 the cost. Its an excellent value and an excellent rack. That all said, you can't go wrong the Titan.....or Rogue or others.

You can definitely do far better than Titan, but you can also do worse, like those youth bench press racks from Marcy and Weider.

All I'm saying is that you can definitely go wrong "the Titan". The two threads I posted prove that. Your rack and accessories don't make the huge number and severity of Titan issues magically go away.

Burtle1, I'm hoping that you don't take the risk with Titan, but if you still choose to, it's important to review those threads, specifically the second one. Make an informed decision, and ensure that you inspect the piss out of what you receive and replace anything that's been noted to pose a safety risk (jhooks, specifically).

    no. you don't.

And that 1/2 cost is about 2x too much for what you get.
