I have no experience with that barbell, but I got a 300lb cap barbell set from Sports Authority for around $150. Don't know if you have that store around you though.

They are junk, I would not waste my money, Cement filled plastic coated and a tubular bar. The bar alone would make me question it. 100 lbs is probably pushing it for max weight.

In light of all these ^^^^, OP, I'd conservatively opine that you should just step away from the plastic weights.

I had the grey Sears ones in high school, until the plastic cracked and the concrete came out.

Plastic filled weights are only good for holding down tarps on boats, sheds, rv's, etc.

Junk junk junk junk & junk.

Serious question though......does the cement get poured and cure in the plastic cover? Or do they get molded in plastic after the cement hardens. Expanding cement might be the cause of the covers always breaking.

When? Was this around holiday time? I'm going to check out Sports Authority around me for the first time, and I don't want to get excited, because that is exactly what I am looking for.

yeah you might try Dicks, or Play it Again Sports if you have any around. Also just check Craigslist, people are selling olympic weights ALL the time. You can find something reasonable for sure. I have about 200 bucks invested in my weights, and I have about 500 lbs worth, all bought used.

Dicks has them, but I haven't been there in a while. I was just at Sports Authority the other day. If I remember correctly their 300 lb set was either $199 or $219, but it seems they pretty much always have a 20% off "sale" on free weights and dumbells.

I've seen the Cap 300 pound set at Dicks and a local chain - price is typically around $199.

I'm curious, does anyone typically use a 300 pound olympic set like this for dumbells ?
(i mean with olympic sized db bars )

Here's the store locations for Play-It-Again in NY ( http://www.playitagainsports.com/locations.aspx?s=NY ). They sell new sets as well as used sets.
I've never seen a set for sell with dumbbell handles instead of the barbell. At least not Olympic size.
