That was the clinch, getting more hard work for that one.

I've done 410 for a single at 195, then after numerous shoulder problems I was able to work back up to 405x2 last summer. I'm looking to hit 405 with a narrow grip (and possibly no leg drive), so I'm in.

last week
135x6
225x4
300x1
going for 325 tomorrow
what do you guys recommend as the best way to get warmed up for a max push? i feel doing the warm up with 135 and 225 made 300 much harder. but i didn't want to just dive into it without a warm up. should i just do like 75lbs a bunch of reps to warm up?

4 plates or bust!!!
Hey fellas.
I see what you have going on hear and wanna jump ion with ya if that's cool. I have been working out hard now for a year. I started with a 185 lb bench press max. In February of this year I reached 315 then 335 in the same day. I was shocked. After that I tapered away from regular bench press for several months and did some dumbell presses in place of bench. I lost a little strength. Last week i maxed out at 335 again but did too much of a warmup before hand. I probably could have gotten 335 again had I left out some of the warm up. My goal is to hit 405 by my birthday on April 29, 2013. I feel like I am well on my way. I would love to be able to participate in this with you all. We can share experiances as we track our progress.
Thanks in advance,
Jerry.

Hey up dudes. Just signed up. Great website/forum and a great mix of members.
Present PR is 242 x 3
I hope to bench 308 by next summer. I train in my garage and use a standard bar (not Olympic), 6ft 10" in length, with inch diameter. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing. But reckon I can get 308.Last edited by Leigh07; 12-21-2012 at 05:27 PM. Reason: grammar

I take my time. I actually do 1 or 2 standard warmups with a light weight. A weight I can do over 20 times, but maybe for only about 12-15 (the number isn't important). Then, I work my way up slow, doing "acclimation sets" which prepare the joints, for about 1-3 reps each. I do about 5 sets of these, with increasing weight each set, careful not to be exhaustive, and not even approaching failure. So when I hit my 3 rep max, it was like this:
135x15
135x14
185x3
225x2
250x2
275x1
Real set: 315x3
All of those increasing low rep sets were specifically for preparing my joints, and perhaps even my nervous system.
