Had this conversation with someone the other day. We were discussing why people say they bench 3 plates, meaning they bench 315, when in fact they bench a total of 6 plates.
I couldnt come up with an answer

OP, if someone is helping you load a barbell and they ask you what do you want on there. What do you tell them? Do you explain to them you want 4 plates total, or do you say you want 2 plates (per side)? It makes more sense to group things that are right next to eachother instead of grouping ALL the plates together especially something symmetrical.
What makes more sense?
"I bench 6 plates and 2 quarters"
"I bench 3 plates and a quarter"There is no such thing as 'strong enough'

I go with this, on exercises like chest supported rows I dumb it down even more for the most part, if I have 2 plates on it I write it out as "2x10,10,8" and if I throw say a 25 and a 5 on top of that I write "2.30x10,10,10" and so on.
Its just the standard terminology really, why do people ask how much I bench or what's your press instead of specifically saying how much do you bench press? Say it however you please but be sure to specify or people will call bull**** immediately.
