    Need some good deadlift socks...

I just recently starting deadlifting again, and I'm scraping the sh*t out of my shins. I've never used DL socks in the past, but I think it's about time to grab a pair.

I'm looking at the Metal socks from EFTS
    http://www.flexcart.com/members/elit...&m=PD&pid=1822

    2 questions..

First- Anyone know how those sizes translate to shoe size? I wear a size (US) 10 1/2 - 11 gym shoe.

Second - Are those meant to be worn only without shoes, or can I wear them with my Metal Squat Shoes that I use for deadlifting?

If you know of a better brand, feel free to link. Thanks in advance.

I use soccer socks to protect my shins - not sure if you have your heart set on deadlift socks, but they may be worth looking into.

No they aren't worth looking into, they are regular soccer socks with a Titan logo slapped on for 15 bucks. The OP might consider buying APT or rehband deadlift shin guards or just buying knee sleeves that can be used as deadlift shin guards as well.

    Shin guards: http://prowriststraps.com/inc/search...=shin&n=216086
    Kneee Sleeves: http://prowriststraps.com/inc/search...eeves&n=603512

    Knee Sleeves: http://www.jackalsgym.com/store.aspx?prod_id=RH-KS

Note: APT knee sleeves are not allowed in some raw federations, as they are made from knee wrap material.

    Thanks for the links.

I actually have some EFTS knee sleeves, but they're a little too thick for that purpose imo. I'd be afraid of the bar catching on them.

I might think about those shin guards, but they're a little pricey compred to DL socks.

You can always wear soccer socks with duct tape running down your shins, so you have less friction.

I went to walmart and they were like $5 for soccer socks - I wasn't talking about buying spendy ones just b/c of the logo.

You are paying about $10 more for the Metal / EliteFTS name...

If you want long socks to wear for deadlifting then go to any Marshalls/TJ Max and pick up some Under Armor socks or other long socks (usually $5). For additional protection you can put a strip of athletic tape on your shin.

Thanks for adding in that bit of awesome advice. It's easy to see why you're in the red.

Some meets actually *require* DL socks now, which is understandable because they don't want to have to clean blood off the bar.

Pretty easy to say when you dont deadlift much.

Someone posted a good idea about cutting a panel out of a plastic coke bottle.

It would be sweaty but good

Maybe an undersock to minimize the sweating... undersock, plastic, oversock. If I didn't have such a narrow stance I would consider...

I used to use a cotton knee sleeve that had gotten to small.
I only scrape one shin though.

you guys will probably call me a pussy but i wrap a towel around the bar and tie two strings at each end to keep the towel from comming un-wrapped. If i don't DL like that then i rip hair and skin off. I have tried wearing thick sweat pant and my shins can't take the beating. one or two sets won't kill me tho.

buy the socks they are cheap, if you only wear them during deadlift workouts they should last a long time.

What about a pair of these:

    - I have used Soccer Socks and they only help a bit...plus I don't have knee sleeves so can't use that..

All you need is knee high socks. Why does everyone make this so hard?
Socks on deadlift aren't mean to "help". They're just meant to keep you from bleeding on the bar.

Question regarding this option, sorry if it seems stupid:

You put the Duct Tape only once? Or do you put Duct Tape each time you deadlift?

B/c I would assume you need to take the Duct Tape off when washing the socks, no?

Never did I say they would "help" me in deadlifting, but as you mentioned, keep me from bleeding on the bar or my gym floor.

And again, I have (and used Soccer Socks, Baseball socks) and they only helped a bit.

Yes, but you said that soccer socks only "helped" a bit, so I'm assuming you expect these to "help" more. Are you saying that soccer socks don't keep you from bleeding on the bar?

If that's the case, you can wear shinguards under the socks, or duct tape your shins under the socks. But, the more bulk you add to your shins, the harder the lift is going to be.

You put the duct tape on your leg not on the sock, it would get torn off if you put it on the sock

Yes, and I assumed you meant "help" as adding lbs on my deadlift. Soccer socks, yes did help...and
