    which shoes to squat in?

I have 2 choices of shoes to squat in, I don't think either will be that great but which would be the best of the 2? I have nike shox or nike air max skylines like these
    http://www.soleredemption.com/wp-con..._air_max_1.jpg

Also, I have had a problem with lower back rounding due to flexibility issues, should I stop doing squats until I am flexible enough to do them? Thanks.

Dont squat barefoot if you have problems with your feet. I have flat feet but was told to squat without shoes and had mad knee/back pain.

If you are serious, weightlifting shoes (do-wins, adidas weightlifting shoes etc), or powerlifting shoes (Safe SST, metal etc).
If you squat wider flat soled shoes are better, many wide squatters like Chuck taylors

If you are not, where what ever you want as long as the sole is hard

Big difference? Yes and no. Running shoes have a very soft/squishy base. It can allow movement, which can cause injury. Will it happen everytime? Nope. Plenty of people squat with running shoes. It just isn't optimal.

For low level gym based squatting they fine. If you are looking to compete in powerlifting No.

Deadlifting they would be great, as well as general gym stuff.

Before I ever came on this forum I have never heard of squatting with special shoes or w/o shoes. I have been squatting for 10 years now with just regular basketball sneakers and I have absolutely no back issues whatsoever, no depth issues, no balance issues and no strength issues. That being said I should try squatting in "socks" or "chuck taylors" to see if there is any noticable difference. What is the benefit to squatting in socks again? is it purely a balancing issue?

Well, the way it was explained to me is when you step under 300+ for squats, it really doesnt matter if you have super awesome gel or foam soled shoes, it all gets compressed very flat, lol, so why not just start out that way with flat soled shoes, or bare feet, although I think the socks thing is to stop sweaty feet and injuries from slipping, not sure...

I think weightlifting shoes use wood which would not compress.

The point of a hard soled shoe is so you can transfer energy more efficiently. Imagine trying to squat on a soft surface, lets say some wrestling mats. The mats are going to sink and you won't transfer all the energy through the floor because of it. It's the same concept with soft soled shoes. This is why all powerlifters wear something with a hard sole, either flat or with a raised heel.
There is no such thing as 'strong enough'

OP if you're having depth issues due to flexibility then try elevating your heels when you squat with a piece of wood. This will help until you get the flexibility thing worked out.

    + the shoes thing

I squat in low cut Chucks.

Not sure how that is relevant, but thanks for the mental image. Will make fapping to your pics more pleasurable.

Also, I have had a problem with lower back rounding due to flexibility issues, should I stop doing squats until I am flexible enough to do them? Thanks.
IS THIS A TRICKY QUESTION ???

try squat/weightlifting shoes they are made for exactly that purpose
they will help with the rounding and give you overall better stability..

    ps
the shoes you mention are BB/running shoes, you are not running when squatting
