Torque, up to a point I guess. The push in every gear up to XX MPH is raw. Becomes a battle of RPM and HP.

Technically torque, as horsepower is a man made formula equaling torque multiplied by RPMs divided by 5xxx or whatever, but they pragmatically matter an equal amount. All torque is like a tractor. All HP is like a weed wacker. Though without accounting for weight, the issue of Tq vs HP is pointless.

finally!!!
torque is defined as the ability to maintain speed under load......from a physics point of view.....
from a Dentist's (mine) point of view: torque means everything with handpieces: the amount of speed they generate means squat if when you push them against a tooth, they slow down or stop.....
the more torque they have the more they maintain their speed while cutting......
the load, in the case of the cars, is the weight of the cars pushing on the tires, meaning, gravity......
getting that car up to speed quickly and maintaining it, is a balance between the two.....
to say which is more important, is a contradiction of terms, technically: they must work together.

even though im a v8 guy, the petrol usage is pretty ****ty.
do love the feeling of booting it in 1st and smashing the passenger into there seat though.
the ford xr6 engine makes alot of torque though, 393 lb/ft of torque from 1950 rpm is pretty crazy and it is a 4 door family car that gets to 100 km/h in under 5 seconds.
i noticed the TT kits are getting pretty popular, powerskids in 3rd sounds pretty good.
whats the most power you have seen out of a simple cam only ls1??Last edited by camdls1; 06-01-2010 at 08:27 PM.

well electric cars have instant torque, but because of the batteries they also weigh a good amount.
As for the topic id say torque makes for a much more fun driving experience. My s4 makes about 360 hp and 380 tq and first gear pulls are really fun with all the torque.
that being said, weight is really important! 300 ftlb/tq in a 3300 lb car feels alot more different than 300 ftlb/tq in a 2500 lb car.

In my circle we do not look down on Supra's its a great platform if you know what you are doing. Ricer is someone who thinks their crap is fast with stupid mods like a frat cannon and intake. Sorry your 1994 Civic is not fast with those mods. I actually had a kid say he'd smoke me with a set up like this, his logic was my car was automatic, WTF?????
