if you're goal is a heavier deadlift, power, then, drop the 4 sets X 8 ...
dont do sets over 5 reps,
do some speed work, i.e. take 50-60% of your current max, do 3 reps, as FAST as you can, really get it off the deck fast, rest 1 minute (strict), and then do another set
do 6-8 sets, in 10-15 minutes, all at the same weight, 50-60% of your max.... dynamic effort work (google dynamic effort deadlift westside)
for heavy work
start with 2-3setsX5, on a 8-10 week routine, and every 2 weeks, lower the reps by 1
2-3setsX5
2-3setsX4
2-3setsX3
1 week of 3-4setsX2
and then attempt a new max
more time with heavy-ass weight builds a bigger deadlift

Havent checked in in a while. Lots of big pulls in here lately.
Here's my latest. They aren't the prettiest of pulls but i wasnt even going for a PR that day. I just got angry and went at it.

The biggest secret in life is not that we go through life discovering ourselves but that we go through life creating our selves. Think about that.

Deads late to the party
I'm not sure why I stayed away from this lift for years. I was always under the impression it made your waist wider. Now, it's my favorite lift. I just started up with it in the begining of January. I'm not sure what my 1 RM is yet. I'm repping 305-315 for six. I'll check back in after Wednesday night and let you know how it goes. Thanks for starting up this thread. Tons of great info and input.
I knew I was a winner back in the late sixties. I knew I was destined for great things. People will say that kind of thinking is totally immodest. I agree. Modesty is not a word that applies to me in any way - I hope it never will.

There was a guy in the gym today who loaded up 235kg (518lbs) on the olympic bar, and proceeded to do 3 sets of 4 reps with horrific form. I'm gutted I didn't manage to get a video.
I hate deadlifts, but they are a damn good lift, and my lift day would not be complete without them.My Transformation Challenge Thread - http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=131278943
