I have both you and Byron to thank for the grip thing. Im still suprised the difference it makes. I was semi concerned that I was going to stall at 155 again but I have confidence that Im gonna kick its ass now.

I've been reading your journal. Looks like you've made some impressive gains in a short amount of time.
I think I'm gonna be staring this routine very soon. I've gotta get something going on my raw strength.

So I was pretty sore yesterday and super tired, was semi concerned I would miss todays workout, felt a solid 50% in the morning and made a probably terrible decision to go anyways (also havent slept too well recently)
Squats..... so i get 185 on my back and my traps were SOO horribly sore lol... it felt like when you were 8 years old and kids do that pressure point sneak attack thing to each other. had NO idea how 300+ was gonna feel. they warmed up and felt a bit better so I figured as long as I can make it through squats, ill be fine today. 370 didnt really feel that heavy, but I knew my soreness / tiredness was going to affect me, got 4 up and mentally did not feel the 5th.. racked the weight, counted to 5, and did my last rep. ok.. kinda cheated, but I have made 370x5 before so I dont think that will be a problem if I count this as a sucessfull 5 reps.
Bench, actually went well... I realized at this point that my biceps and shoulders were very sore allong with my back and traps.. shouldnt affect my bench... and didnt. 225x5 was actually pretty easy, as stupid as it is, i am very excited for monday doing 230x5 for a PR
rows dips were fine, I didnt up the weight this week for dips because I didnt want to grind myself too far into the ground.
chins... ok im almost done, chins are always easy, ... I now realized my shoulders were Super sore now that when I raise my arm to grab the chinup bar they hurt bad lol.. finsihed and went home.
Shower time --- ahahah soo... at this point i have reached new levels of being sore (this count as a PR ?) I did a double curl with arm weight to remove my tshirt and almost failed.. hhaha.... I can no longer reach most parts of my body without pretty bad muscle soreness, and little things like scratching my head etc. are now difficult tasks.. haha
I think my body is dealing with this by releasing some funny chemicals.. currently I find everything funny and cant stop giggling from the muscle pain I feel when I move in anyway.
I also have a disire to watch the movie dumb and dumber which I probably will after I eat, which will be followed by a much needed nap time.

Nice lifting. I don't know what is wrong with me, but I kind of like doing squats when miserably sore. It always puts me in a good mood too.
637/390tng/615 - belt/wraps, best gym lifts.
600/370/600 - best competition lifts.
575/330/560 - best competition lifts at 181 raw.

I hope thats sarcasm .... I have never been this muscle sore in my entire life. I have had some sore leg days where you fail to walk without looking like frankenstien, leg sore is usually where giggles of soreness start. but this is a first for me where I move my arm and giggle of the pathetic weak baby that I have became which tightens my abs which leads to more soreness and more giggles, and so on....
.... somewhat the same... but not sore to this level for me.
I always have my best leg days when I either dont want to do it / arent motivated to go, then have an amazing day.. or sometimes after I am sore from a bike ride the day before and feel a little questionable for squatting heavy... always turns out good.

Today feeling a little more recovered finally, little lazy but ok.
Squats I go for 185 and go to lift and realize I forgot to add one of the 25's ... good thing I had clips on... get the right weight on and now it feels to heavy on that side like I already adapted to the mis-matched weights. WTF ! 230... yea still felt weighted wrong. 280.. ok feeling better, but 280 wasent super light like weds usually feel.
OH press.. didnt feel as He-Man like as last week, but still solid. 150 wasent too bad and I know Ill get my revenge for a PR next week on that damn 155x5
Deads felt a little weird at first, felt better as I went on, 480 wasent a problem, not tired AT ALL this time, not sure what I changed but I used to sound like I was trying to blow down a pigs house by rep 3-4. feels good, 5 plates for 5 here i come ! lol
nothing else exciting today, but Im ready for breaking some PR's on monday already.
side notes :
Ive been debating doing a small cut for a while now, Im not fat, but just feel like I have a bit more flab around my sides that feels weird if I did a movment like a side bend.. so after I end this round in october or something, I might take a 2 month break from madcows, shed some fat, have fun on my bike in the fall weather and be ready to get back at it by cold time.
(no idea what kinda program to do... any suggestions ???)
other side note.. Was driving home and saw 2 teens on their bikes, one said to the other "Yo!, ya wanna go chill at the library ?" ... Is it sad that im SUPER shocked by this ? I had no idea kids actually go to the library... all of them around here seem like gangster wannabe little sh!ts, always smoking, stealing, etc. I do feel old now by saying this, but that comment actually made me happy... at least 2 kids might grow up and not go to jail in my area.My Powerlifting Journal =

That strongman thing you did sounded badass, I meant to comment sooner on that.
When I did my cut before madcows I did 5/3/1 and it worked out pretty well. I did it 4 times a week but kept the volume for each workout really low, and on the deload I still lifted heavier than what the book says, just not as heavy as the other weeks. I pretty much kept all my strength, maybe even made a tiny bit of progress. I think I had my workout structured like;
Monday: Squat, SLDLs, Rows, Chins
Tuesday: Bench, some type of OH Press, CGBP or something similar
Thursday: Dead, Front Squats, Rows, some kind of Curl
Friday: OH Press, Bench, Laterals, Tricep stuff
I'd do the 3 sets for the big exercises and then maybe 2 or 3 for the other lifts. The assistance stuff you can really do whatever, I just preferred doing it like a pull/push so my upper back didn't get overworked.

Meh, Friday never is exciting, I never have a problem with the first 3 reps so I generally go into fridays kinda lazy / not pumped because I cant see myself failing before 4-5 reps. this was my week of tieing my PRs so when monday comes around, Im gonna have to get prepared and motivated to break my squat and bench PR.... Im guessing this will be a hard one to do, going to have to pace myself for squats, as well as get in that gettin sh!t done / cannot fail mindset to grind out those extra 2 reps.

Started out good today, walked to my car on my street and saw my door wasent closed.. hmm.. maybe I forgot (I dont lock it) nope, some crack head went in last night and stole my pennys again LOL... I actaully like when this happens (usually once a year).. I HATE pennys and have been meaning to clean out that tray anyways, and the fact that someone stole somewhere between 80 cents and maybe 2 bucks is funny.
Squats were good, 380 wasent that heavy again but the last rep I was feeling myself getting weaker, so I didnt pause at the bottom like I normally do for the first time since I started madcows. still a legit rep I think. I honestly am not sure if I had enough left in me to pause that last rep.. so I stand by my decision.
** from now on, my squats will only increase 5lbs / week.... I think 10 is just too much now that im into new territory again**
Bench was easy, rocked out 230 for a PR ! my boob has been feeling weird the last few days I have benched.. maybe getting used to real bench ? not sure.. its not sore, just weird.. usually feel it if i stretch or right when i get under the bar before i lift.
rows / chins nothing special.... dips were ALLOT easyer today, I did take it easy last week.. maybe that was good for my body to catch up with the weight ?
onto the good stuff !
that old man was there again and was annoying as ever, he grunts at everything... doing body weight 1/2 rep dips at 170lbs and the trainer helping you is not worthy of a grunt so loud and painfull that it sounds like someone is ripping the guys scrotum off. he makes sure everyone at the gym can hear him after sets "WOW! glad thats over!... ohhh F*UCK !" as if he just accomplished something no man has ever done before. and I finally figured out what he looks like... a combo of a teletubby / elf... but with old man grey hair... I actually think there is a pic somewhere on the net that I remember seeing... tryed to find it but no luck. kinda like this.. but old
just as I was leaving some new curl kids came in... I really wanted to stay and see what they did, but I had nothing left to do all I witnessed was DB curls and single arm tri pulldowns where every rep the one kid told the other to flip his hand over to mix it up... So I had my first massage yesterday, been wanting to do this for awhile, was curious how I would feel today, or if it would do anything (my trap has bugged me for awhile, thats why I do stupid shrug / grip stuff) leg and back massage 45mins
Squats - felt really good, had a good feeling today
OH press... warm ups with the bar seemed heavyer then the bar should.. was semi scared.. 95 easy. 115 easy.. 135 is usualy difficult but flew up, 155 walked out with it.. and it felt soo light, 5 flew up like nothing ! no idea whats going on, but this was sweet.. take that 155lbs, I finally get my revenge.
Deads, feel solid from the start.. 430 was feeling like a warm up, 490 first 4 reps flew up like it was nothing, took a 3 second break and finished my 5th and held it as long as possible in joy 5 plates next week !
no idea what was going on today, but i felt amazing lifting, almost to the point where I wasent trying.... I hope this feeling stays forever haha... just everthing my form felt perfect, no struggle at all.. awesome day!
side notes :
I dont think anyone in my city owns a bike pump... I havent seen a bike ride by in weeks that isent almost on the rims the tires are so flat. (so funny to see people struggle up hills, since it would be so easy if they had some damn air pressure)
I have offiially seen in person, MRS. steven brule... I sat at the intersection for like a minute I was so amazed. if your not aware this is Dr. steven brule.. i saw a woman that looked identical but with grey hair..
she was just standing making this face at a 3 way intersection.

when I started this program weight gain was hi on my to do list, and I think since Im actually getting stronger, I just forgot all about weighing myself. Im pretty sure I have gained a bit though... was 192lbs when I started, I might even be 200lbs now @ 5' 11
I really need to invest in a scale and a video cam of some sort... I want to get some vids on here so bad but my current unemployed bum-life status does not agree at the moment..
lol.... my dead only semi makes up for my terrible bench... the bad part is that out of everything my dead seems to be making the most and easyest progress, just making my lifts even more unbalanced..... bumlifes future..... the deadlift of peonlover with the bench of diesel weasel ?
thanks about the oh press PR... again, need to give credit to you and wick, I never felt like I got stronger on OH untill my grip changed, untill now, every week just felt heavyer and heavy untill i failed.
I hated that 155 so much! hopefully I keep going with this lift.... as stated before, Im really excited about my upperbody stuff this round.

slept it... wasent feeling too motivated.. so usual friday
squats felt good at first, but once i was done with 330, i was feeling my lower back, I guess the deads did more to me then i thought. glad i did only a 5lb increase this week, my squats are feeling hard... and monday is gonna be rough.
bench is feeling great, 235 should be good for monday, and for the first time my set of 8 wasent hard at the end... probably coulda done another 5... perhaps my crap chest endurance is improving ?
rows are rows.. , chins were allot easyer.. probably time to add another ladder.... cable rows easy too.. had more then 12 if i wanted so ill up the weight for next week.
curl kids were back... and guess what they were doing ? yep more curls... nothing like a solid day of 50 sets of curls to get huge. i saw everything from 1RM cable curls (single arm) to some kind of chest fly / single arm curl hybrid, 1/4 rep cable curls at the bottom 1/4, then top and sometimes middle... of course to work all the different parts of the bicep individually, and even some weird rope almost lat pulldown to tri extension.. I told them that was a nice fly curl, and they might not have senced the sarcasm..... i hope they went home feeling badass from the compliment. their day finished off with a mix of the same rope tri pulldown from about 17 different angles.My Powerlifting Journal =

So rather then debby downer everyone.... ill just sum it up fast.. had a crappy weekend, probably ate 4 meals (bad ones) over the 2 day span, and knew today wasent going to be pretty. I picked up some vibram 5 finger shoes, and if it wasent for me wanting to test them I dont think I would have even went today.
Squats... shoes feel like im barefoot.. so far so good. I got 385 on my back and re racked it because I just wasent there mentally. waited a bit, did it again and still didnt care / have the energy to do it, so just did 2 and stopped... also due to having a weird gassy chest bloating feeling, that felt terrible when I squatted 285+
Bench... was going to go home after squats but figured id give it a go anyways. 205 felt heavyer then usual and figured id fail for sure at 235. but it went fine. its a PR but today sucked so Im not happy about it.
Did 12 body weight chins and went home.. I think Im just going to pretend today didnt happen and hope that I can eat good and deadlifting 5 plates for 5 on weds will make me happy and put me back in the caring mood. for friday ill continue on with bench like today went well, and tell myself that 385 squat is new and do it for a triple, and hopefully hit 385 x 5 for next monday.My Powerlifting Journal =

Nice work on the bench at least. Even though you didn't get around to all the lifts you still did the most important two, and one of them you PRed on, that's actually not a bad day. Just make sure to eat a bunch in the next 2 days and kill those deads on Wednesday, I think I'm gonna skip them (lower back is a wreck still) so I'm gonna live vicariously through you.
