Would a martial art improve my wrestling?

Pretty much the subject. A few guys on the team are going like MMA and BJJ, they say it helps, I wouldn't know, they're too light for me to wrestle.... I was thinking about taking up a martial art, but everyone does MMA which is a mixture of em all?? And BJJ, I wanna do something different. Like....Judo! I looked on YT and it Looks sweeet and it'll give me something to work on on the weekends.

    Any thoughts?

Yes, Judo would help you with take downs and body control to get them down, BJJ would also help with control of your opponent. When I was doing submission wrestling, we had a few guys that also did Judo that taught a few things that were really helpful as far as control and leverage. I suggest you contact a judo school, get the 3 days to a week free class trial and see for yourself if you would find it helpful or not.

Probably wouldn't hurt but training for wrestling when your a wrestler is better. Ever since I got into bjj I now always go for the neck chokes. This is something you don't want as second nature when your wrestling. (head and arm)

I thought wrestling camps in the summer were always pretty beneficial. i kid on my team did jui-jit-sui and broke his arm, its a bit more dangerous. he also said it messed his thinking up a little.

If you're purely looking to benefit your wrestling, cross train with Judo. Only participate in take-down style scrimmaging don't do any of the BJJ groundwork.

    sure would

I have been doing mma for about 4 and half years now. we have wrestlers come in all the time to train before their matches. When you add on another sport you see things you wouldnt normally see. When i train with a wrestler i see different things as does he. so i think it is very beneficial to train in other things.

I agree, when we roll around I am usually going for a throw, wether it be a head and arm or a lat dropp.
