    Tina's testing out No-Beta

Huge thanks to Simpy and Double T for providing the NO-BETA to me. I am excited to share my training and experience.

I am 26, female and have been lifting semi-seriously for 2.5years. I stopped long-distance running a year ago to focus on lifting. I weigh 135 (ish). I've always been athletic - competing in running and triathlons over the previous 10 or so years.

Lifting has been a whole new ballgame though. The thrill of hitting a new PR drives me for constant improvement. I found a new gym last December - hard core and a ton of fun - introduced me to the strongman events.

Training: primary lifts at high weight/low rep (accessory lifts at higher reps)
Day 1. DL (rows, pull-ups, pulldown)
Day 2. Military Press (raises, Arnold press, arm stuff)
Day 3. Squat (squat variations, lunges, SLDL)
Day 4. BP (Incline, flys, dips, pullover)
Day 5. Event stuff – includes farmers, medleys, yolk, tire flip(s), rings. Also some random workouts are more powerlifitng style (chains, bands, work up to heavy singles etc). My favorite day of the week - always on a Saturday.

Goals: I want to compete in a strongman’s competition this summer. I also want a 300lb DL.

My upper body is WEAK compared to my lower. I’ve been prioritizing these lifts lately and I really need to get a stronger press if I’m going to be competitive (…and my vanity wants caps on my shoulders )

This log should be a lot of fun and a great resource for me – hopefully some others as well. I’ll be able to track my training and experiences with NO-BETA. I completely expect to dominate in the gym. I like to track my training and nutrition so all the goods will be laid out here!

Tomorrow will be my first dose of No-Beta, I'll start out with 3 capsules, and it's bench press tomorrow!!

    Day 1. No-Beta

    Thursday, May 20, 2010

    Training
    1. BB BP: 45x10, 65x10, 85x5, 90x5, 95x5, 100x2x3, 105x2x3
    2. Incline: 30x10, 32x3x8
    3. Flys
    4. Pullovers
    5. Raises

    Diet
    1. protein powder, oats, yogurt
    2. chicken and avocado
    3. pb and yogurt
    4. chicken, chickpeas and avocado
Other supps: multi, fish-oil and ZMA before bed

    Thoughts
I took the No-Beta (3 capsules) 15-20min before beginning. Training was FOCUSED. I had no problem talking to others and shifting attention right back to lifting. Some slight tingling and warmth – but helped with energy more than anything. I’m liking this amount and will stay at 3 capsules for awhile.

I do take it on an empty stomach (lift before eating), so my tummy felt a little off but nothing I couldn't handle and fully expect the feeling to fade as I get used to taking it.

BB bench felt heavy at first and I was a little worried, but the last few sets went up easy. Incline was awesome. I’ll be using 35s next time.

Attention-span and drive/energy carried over throughout the morning – got a lot done at work

    Question:
Take it on the off days? Tomorrow is a rest day...I'm not planning to take it unless I decide to do some cardio.

So glad to see that you started your journal. Thanks for sending me the link.

To answer your question, I don't take the NO Beta on non-training days, but I know a lot of people do. It's really up to you.

I'm excited to see your journey in this thread. And I'm already jealous of your DL. My goal is 285 by August.

285 is great - for a PL meet?

I still have a ways to go to get there. I'm not sure how much increase is realistic to expect. Should be a fun journey though!

    Training
    1. sled drag/hammer swings
    2. jump squats
    3. squats w/safety squat bar
    4. farmers just cause i love them
    5. GHR
    6. log press
    7. ab wheel w/resistance band

    Diet
    1. 2 eggs, 3 whites, veggies
    2. yogurt
    3. protein shake
    4. picnic food!!!

    Thoughts
I took 4 capsules today at 945 – I know, I know – I said I was going to stick with 3, BUT I ate this morning, and these workouts are always longer – usually 2hrs or so. A lot more talking and set up time. It was so hot outside I really didn’t notice the warmth, kind of noticed the tingling. I had a ton of energy. Workout started around 1015 and ended at 1230. I definitely could have stayed longer – done prowler sprints, played on the rings but had plans.

Farmers were exceptionally good. I did two shorter laps at 120lbs in each hand and then two looooong laps at 80lbs in each hand. My calluses ripped off and my traps are killing me (seriously – it’s hard to hold my head up ).

Jump squats were awesome as well, I’ve just added them in, and am finally not really scared of hitting my shins any more. I guess they are so scraped up it doesn’t matter anymore.

All in all, an excellent workout fueled by No-beta. For my next Saturday workout, I want to try taking 3 capsules in the beginning and another 3 half-way through (around an hour or 70min later). I'm hoping it will give me a second kick. Any advice about this?

That workout looks awesome. Very Cross-Fit style. How sore do you get after these workouts?

As for the NO-Beta dosing, I have never done that, but would be interested to see how it works for you. I always just take all 6 pre-wo and it works great for me. Good luck and enjoy this day!

I get really sore most of the time. This is definetly my 'fun' day, but almost always overdone. I just lift the rest of the week to have the strength to do this stuff. Yesterday and today my traps are feeling it - endurance farmers will do that though.

    Thanks!

    Day 3.

    Sunday, May 23, 2010

    Training
    1. DB bench: warmup to 45sx5,4 !! dropset
    2. Incline: 32x10,8,10***
    3. seated chest press
    4. raises
    5. dips/skullcrushers
    6. BB curls: 60x4,4,3 and superset w/30x10,10,10

    Diet
    1. 3 egg, 6 whites omelette
    2. yogurt and pb
    3. chicken and tomato on toast
    4. protein shake
    5. chicken sandwich

    Thoughts
Alright: today I really felt the effects of the No-Beta. Although, before I forget – that bottle smells like ass. The pills are fine, no smell, swallow them easily (without water even), but I dread opening the bottle. There should be a warning: "Open at arms reach!"

Workout was good: ***on Incline – I failed getting these up TWICE before my first set. I’m not sure what happened here.
60 for BB curl is the most I've ever done - reps are low, but give me a couple weeks and I'll get them up.

And I finally learned about teh pumpzzz!!! I’ve never felt my arms fill out like that. I’m not lean, so I couldn’t really SEE a difference, but I really felt it and kept looking down not sure of what I would see.

Deadlifting tomorrow AM…already excited for it.

I'm interested to hear how the 3+3 No Beta dosing works for you. Like Barb, I also take 6 pre workout. I had to work up to it, though.

BTW, you're workouts are inspiring! Wow.

Noooo- don't smell the bottle! Well, you've been warned.

And yea - RE: pump. I've taken other supps before, but NEVER had my arms feel like that before.

It makes me want to get lean and see veins or something.

Thanks. The goal for DLing was 225 at 5x3. I only got 4x3 because of ripped calluses...they were fairly easy though. I'll have bandaged hands for next week and up the weight.

    Day 4.

    Monday, May 24, 2010

    Training
    1. DL: barx10,10, 135x6, 185x6,3, 225x3,3 (calluses tore off here – painful!!) 3,3
    2. BB bent over row: 45x10, 65x10, 75x10, 85x8,8
    3. seated row
    4. chinup (pathetic attempt – 4,3,3)
    5. GM

    Diet
    1. protein shake and oats
    2. oats and whites
    3. chicken and avocado
    4. pb, yogurt
    5. meatballs and cheese
    6. ??

    Thoughts
I took 4 capsules again today- getting slightly used to this. No huge pump like yesterday, but energy was consistent for the whole workout.
I really wanted to get 5x3 at 225 for the DL. BUT stupid calluses, tore off on Saturday and again today. It was too painful to get the last set. Mental block. They did go up pretty easy though, think I’ll move up to 235/245 next week.

A good workout – I’m glad tomorrow is a rest day. I need it.

Yeah - I only take No-Beta before my workouts - at 3 or 4 currently. I train three days a week in the early AM (during the week) then Saturdays are 11-2ish training. I'm going to try doing 3 no-betas before the workout and 3 more half way through...it's a long workout. I want to see if I get a second wind.

How fast are you going to up the dosage?
