Man my Cl sucks compared to what I read here, I have only seen a handful of deals and by the time I email its sold.
I went to dicks and bought the grip weights and bar 300lb set for 200 out the door 2 miles from my house. I saw someone who was about 20 miles away from selling used 300lb weight non grip type for 150.This forum is great! Wish I found it years ago.....

Hey guys,
I am really in need of a rack that will fit in my basement which is 86" as well as barbells and bars, clips, the works (I have nothing except some Olympic dumbbells). I wanted to get a loaded rack with dip bar, pull up bar etc. and a bench with a leg attachment. I happened to come across this about 30 minutes from me. I spoke with the owner and he seems real nice and willing to help.

Does this look like a decent deal for the cost or does it just look old and out of date?

Oh okay. The only reason I ask is because it comes with 1) calf raise machine 2) leg curl machine 3) barbells and bars 4) half rack which will fit in my basement (most racks are too tall) which has a lat pulldown, smith machine, and a pec machine. Granted I don't really know or think I would use the smith, but it just seems like a lot to pass up for $2,500. Not to mention it comes with a Nautilus FID bench.
Are you sure this isn't that great? Just double checking, sorry to put you on the spot.

ah i thought maybe you were just getting the smith by itself for something less than 2500. for me i would find it preferable to piece the equipment together piece by piece. maybe he can knock some of the cost off? if you aren't going to use the smith portion of the machine it seems silly to pay 2500 (yeah i know it includes everything, but thats alot of the 2500 you aren't going to use). if that makes sense.
i'll give you an example. i bought the im2000 ironmaster smith machine for 1500. it came with 300 pounds of weights, bar, all the attachments for the bench + the smith + lat pulldown and pec fly attachment on the back, the storage tree for them, leg curl, pullups, dips, leg press bar to do them on the smith, bench, and the ironmaster adjustable dumbbells. it also included the free bar holder to test your strength with on the smith machine with the free weight bar he included with the weights. i probably could have made him knock some of the cost off but thats like 4k new in stuff. too good to pass up. but i think i got equipment to do all the exercises you are getting from his setup for 1k less. takes up less space too. it would fit your basement as well. not saying its not a bad deal but it could be better imo
i've seen ironmaster smiths go for as little as 100-300 after i bought mine so do i wish i had offered less? i do. but i still feel like i got a good bang for my buck.▪█───────█▪ Equipment Crew #46 ▪█───────█▪

I just spoke with him again and he says the price is negotiable. I expect to offer him $2,000 for everything and see what he says.
But let me break it down and see if my sales skills can change your mind or if you stand firm with your decision. I'd also like another opinion as well please!
So, all the physical equipment is Nautilus - I'm not sure about the bars, barbells, weights, etc. I've seen Nautilus in the gym before so they must make some nice stuff. He lays out all of the model numbers quite clearly in the Craigslist posting if you want to check. Here's the basics:
Nautilus Half-Cage
- Smith Attachment
- Lat Pulldown Attachment
- Pec Attachment
- Preacher Curl Attachment
- (NOT LISTED BUT APPEARS IN THE PHOTO) External Spotter Handles
- 200 lbs Plate Stack
Nautilus Additional Plate Stacks for Nautilus Machines
- 6x50 lbs = 300 lbs
- 11x25 lbs = 275 lbs
- 8 x 10 lbs = 80 lbs
- 6 x 5 lbs = 30 lbs
- 4 x 3 lbs = 12 lbs
- 2 x 2.5 lbs = 5 lbs
TOTAL WEIGHT: 702 lbs
Nautilus FID Adjustable Bench
Nautilus Leg Extension + Curl Machine
Nautilus Seated Calf Machine
Free Weights
- 1 x 7' chrome straight bar spring retainers $25
- 1 x 6' chrome straight bar spring retainers $20
- 6 x 6' spin lock chrome straight bars $240 ($40 each)
- 4 x 4' spin lock chrome curl bars $140 ($35 each)
- 10 x 1' spin lock chrome dumbbell bars (5 dumbell sets) $100 ($20/set)
- 1 x 2' spin lock chrome tricep bar $30
Barbell/Dumbbell Plates
- 8 x 25 lbs = 200 lbs
- 24 x 10 lbs = 240 lbs
- 16 x 5 lbs = 80 lbs
- 12 x 3 lbs = 36 lbs
- 4 x 2.5 lbs = 10 lbs
TOTAL WEIGHT: 566 lbs
Dumbbell Rack
So to me I mean you get almost 1,000 lbs worth of Nautilus plates and over 500 lbs of barbell/dumbbell plates for almost a total of 1,500 lbs worth of weights. Then include a Nautilus half rack with all the bars required to do anything. Then add in a Smith machine, a pec machine, a lat machine, and a preacher curl on top of that, not to mention the Nautilus FID bench. This alone is what I was looking for to start my home gym.
Then add the leg curl and extension machine on top of that for a leg workout. You can also get in the calf workout with the calf machine.
It just seems like you get almost everything you would ever need for a pretty damn good price. I could be wrong, which is exactly why I am here and making my case so please prove me wrong. Only things personally missing for me are a dip attachment and a knee lift/abs attachment (which no cages seem to offer).
Is it worth $2,500? Is it worth $2,000? These are the questions I ask you. Will it keep me working out? Absolutely, but can I get a better deal?

it sounds decent. i didn't realize how many weights were included. looks like less in the photos . $2k fora ll is pretty decent. you could probably sell what you didn't want as well and make some of it back for things you do want .

I just bought a house and am starting to pick stuff up for a garage gym. Does $400 seem like a decent deal for a PowerTec bench, 45lb bar, and 140lbs of plates?
I also have the opportunity to buy a deadlift platform, a ProForm mostly new elliptical (I think that's a low end brand, but I am wanting an elliptical for my wife), 300lbs of "Olympic style plates with handles" (I'm kind of confused as to what he means by that), a 35 pound and 45 pound kettlebell for $650. Decent deal or no?
Guess I can't post links to the ads because I'm new, but you can search in Google for "Amazing home gym Smith Machine, Deadlift Platform - $1000 (Columbus, Ohio)" and "WEIGHTS FOR SALE - $400 (HILLIARD )" and they will be the first result.

That sounds too high to me for what it is. $250 might be a fair price.

An 8x8 three layer platform could be built for around $300. (Five sheets of 3/4" plywood at $40 plus two 3/4" stall mats at $40 per mat is $280. Add in $20 of glue, hardware, and finish to come out to $300.) This platform will be big enough to put your rack on it and still have room out front for doing deadlifts. I can't tell from the photo how big his is or what it is about it that makes him think that a new one of that type is worth $500. Anyway, let's say for the sake of argument that it's in good condition and comparable to what I outlined above. We'll value it at $300 because that's what it'd cost to make your own.
The 300lbs of weight is worth $150. I'm guessing that the handles are dumbbell handles. Let's value them at $30.
Assuming they're in good shape, the kettlebells are worth $40. (Again assuming 50 cents per pound.)
The total on all of the above items is $520.
I haven't figured in the elliptical because I don't know anything about it. But if you think it might be worth $130 to you, then that $650 asking price for the set is a fair deal.
Do check into the size and construction of the deadlift platform. If it's only 4x8 in size (and in very good condition), then I'd value it at only $150 - or less if it's not in good condition.
The other consideration is transporting the platform. If it can be taken apart, it might be doable, but if it's all glued together, it'll be heavy and unwieldy. I think you might be better off building your own...▪█─────█▪ Equipment Crew #35

Nice power rack for a $700 BIN price on eBay in the Omaha, NE area. Looks like there is also a matching bench in a separate auction.

Sorry for the double post but I need some extra input here on this listing:
worcester.craigslist.org/spo/2768970200.html
I went and checked it out today. I was told that the equipment was about 10 years old. The barbells you could kind of tell. The rack and the leg machines look like they are in good condition, but you just know by looking at something that it's "older". The bench is in FABULOUS condition - I actually thought it was brand new.
The only thing that really got me here was the fact that the weight stack on the half rack, as well as the smith bar, leg machines, and all of his bars are all 1" threads, not Olympic sizes. I don't put up much weight as I only weigh 140lbs, but would this be a dealbreaker for anyone here? I talked him down to $2,000.
Could someone help me as I wanted to give him an answer tomorrow!

I personally wouldn't consider buying that type of equipment at all because it doesn't give you an adequately safe position from which to squat.

definitely don't need to spend 2k when you're just starting out... you can get stuff new from amazon/local sporting good store for way less.
new stuff.
power rack = 300 shipped amazon.
bench = 50 pick up at walmart (take up to 410 pounds, but most likely will go to 500 at the very least)
grab a set of weight off CL for 100 or get a new set at a used store for 150 or even a new set at sport athority or big 5 ect... for 150.. 300 pounds oly set..
that's like 500 all brand new stuff... why do you want to spend 2k on used stuff?

Well I figured I would have a rack with a smith machine that I could use for squats. It comes with a Nautilus FID bench which I am really in need of, almost a ton of weights, and the rack has 4 attachments that I would make perfect use of (pec, lat, smith, and row) AND it fits in my basement which is 84" high. Not to mention it comes with the leg machines too. :/
