He was one of the strongest powerlifters in the world.
It is our understanding: "he had a Spinal disc herniation, that ended his carrier in 2007."

Such a beast too bad about the herniated disk, makes you wonder how much he would have lifted.

Yeah it sucks You can kind of see how it came about with his squats. Many of them seemed to be very lopsided.

He didn't really squat lopsided in the WPO though, which would suggest that he corrected that issue.

I have a similar issue when squatting wide. I just started experimenting with a wide stance, and one of my hips is just more flexible than the other, so when I go down it goes down further than the other.

The disc could have just been due to the amount of weight he is lifting. Squatting 870 and pulling 793 can't be easy on a 165 lb frame.

Please excuse my ignorance, but I was under the impression that a herniated disc, although a bad injury, was not exactly career ending and was actually considered a relatively common injury in powerlifting? Plus in the youtube link someone posted that he can still squat 200kg for 5 reps raw during training at BW of 67kg...so if he really wanted to he can probably make a comeback since he is still strong enough to rep nearly triple bodyweight in the squat raw.

    I think you're correct.

I hope he makes a comeback, that would be awesome. I'd love to see him compete raw more; I remember right before he was injured he did some random raw meet and easily totalled 1509@165. If he trained for it, I bet he could take the all-time raw record in the 165s.

he competed multiple times after herniating the disc, its not like he gave up.

The guy was young and a top lifter which ever fed he went to, for years...

it depends where the disc is herniated, how badly, lateral or central, and many other things.

this meet was actually after he was injured

people are talking about his injury in the thread about it

    http://www.powerliftingwatch.com/node/6055

he squatted 518 and deadlifted 617 with a destroyed disc.

I wonder if he could get an artificial disk, if it was in his mid or upper back?

That's right; I was thinking he was less than 100% or something for that meet.

I would love to see him make a comeback and make a run @ Conyer's total.

I'm sure he would too, if he lifted until he had a career ending injury, im sure he loves lifting, but when bad **** happens you need to weigh the benefit and risks...

he could possibly make a come back with raw lifting, but gearing up and squatting 350+ lbs extra would be entirely done with

I'm sure he would too, if he lifted until he had a career ending injury, im sure he loves lifting, but when bad **** happens you need to weigh the benefit and risks...

he could possibly make a come back with raw lifting, but gearing up and squatting 350+ lbs extra would be entirely done with
If he is really squatting 440x5@148 raw (as it says on the YouTube comments), he might as well compete. He would be way up there if he still has any of his deadlift or bench strength. He was just so strong on all three lifts, which is unusual for lower bodyweight lifters.
    637/390tng/615 - belt/wraps, best gym lifts.
    600/370/600 - best competition lifts.
575/330/560 - best competition lifts at 181 raw.

I can't help but imagine the extreme weight cutting Kutcher was known for contributed to this type of injury. When he lifted IPF with a 2-hour weigh in he was a 181 class lifter. When he went WPO in 2006? he started cutting down to 165, with the 48-hour weigh in. That kind of weight loss, especially for an already lean man...something's got to give.

he would tear a muscle or a tendon from dehydration before blowing a disc out

he was squatting lobsided for years, and when he started overloading it with multiply it finally went.... it was an issue present for years, probably a lateral disc bulge.

not saying everyone that squats lobsided has disc issues, i squat slightly lobsided... but when its that pronounced, it goes beyond soft tissue weaknesses.

Just curious. Not too long ago I competed against a guy with similar numbers, but a little higher. I think he did more around 500/300/600 raw @ 148.
