Couple things i made last weekend. Not really strongman/powerlifting.
Limited space so i had to compensate. I'm picking up a used 5' olympic bar for the T-bar row and should work pretty good.
Sorry pictures are so big.

Anyone got tips for quick-release pipe clamps?
I'm making fat bar grips out of metal fence post material - basically cutting them lengthwise and filling the empty space with strips of yoga mat (may need something with less give, but I've got a gross yoga mat to get rid of) and I need a way to clamp the two halves together.
So far, I've seen a sort of slide on pipe ring (this was for PVC) and worm-thread clamps (like auto hose clamps), but I'm thinking that there has to be some sort of speed clamp out there that has what I call a mousetrap latch - I swear I've seen that for flex duct pipes and flex hoses in cars, but I can't seem to find one that will fit my standard metal fence post application.
Any thoughts??
Edit - may have found one, can't tell yet - but what I'm looking for is something like this:
Looks like I've got 2 3/8 in OD corner posts, but I'm going to have to lay a tape measure on them tonight.Last edited by RMBros; 12-08-2011 at 07:56 AM. Reason: Added Image

Just finished making my own tyre sled. Got an 18" trye, drilled a hole in the side, threaded an eye hook through using large square washers on both sides. Cut out a scrap piece of wood bigger than the diameter of the hole and forced it into the centre. Add some rope and weight and voila. Simple, but effective. Did a couple of runs with 40kg. It works

Nothing that crazy, just some fat bar dbs. 1.5" ID Sch 40 pipe, cost me like 12 bucks for the 2 pieces. Had the hose clamp things laying around, and painted them a sweet color, lol. Beats the 120 bucks or whatever EFS wants for. I will trim the clamps down a little, so I can have more room on the "sleeves" for plates

Got a small welder for Christmas and been fooling around with it. Made a couple J-Hooks among some other things. Little sloppy but they work.
Waiting for my tax returns and i'm thinking of making a better reverse hyper and a good cambered bar. We'll see.

Those are real nice, i made my homemade Jhooks w/ just a 1inch thinck by 6inch long bolt(grade 8). Then i put a washer and a bolt on the other end. Works pretty good and i put 400lbs on the bar and the bolts held up good (i even added weight by hanging from the bar w/ the 400lbs and the bolts didnt move).
It surprises me how many people refuse to buy equipment from Elitefts because its too expensive but they will buy equipment from their competitors, then continue to go on EFS website to educate themselves for FREE

I have seen a few types of home made boxes for deadlifting. Just remember the plates are 9 inches offset to the bar so if you want 18inch deadlift, you need 9 inch boxes. My training crew has some made out of 2X10's and they are tough as hell, dropped over 700 on them and they didnt care.

Made a wrist roller/wrist leverage bar thingy and a "Twist yo Wrist":
Here's all the stuff i used (except for the blue insulation stuff, that was for my foam roller):
1 1/2" x 2' ABS pipe from Home Depot - $2.95
3/8" x 6" Eyelet screw with nut from Home Depot - ~$1
Small washer from Home Depot - ~.50
Carabiner from Home Depot - ~$1
4" white PVC coupling from Lowes - $1.19
1 1/2" flexible coupling from Lowes - $3.84
4" Black round grates from Lowes - $2.12 each (2 of them)
3/8 Hex lock nut from Lowes - .18
Larger Washer from Lowes -~.50
Rope - Free, i had it laying around
First the "Twist yo Wrist" i drilled a hole in the center of the white PVC coupling and fed the rope through it. I used some tape to mimic the thing at the end of your shoelaces to help with the threading process. Then i tied two knots on the inside and burnt the cut frayed ends. At the opposite end I tied a slipknot and attached it to a carabiner.
I found that the PVC felt like it was warping when i used it, so i got the black grates that fit inside to give it a bit more stability. Thinking about taping some of the blue insulation around it to make a channel for the rope to be guided into and not on my fingers. Also, originally i picked up a 3" and 4" ABS coupling from Home Depot. Big mistake, the O.D. were 4" and 5" respectively, and I found that 4.5" O.D. from the 4" PVC Lowes piece felt just right. Also, on some things Lowes was a lot cheaper for and had better selection, i would recommend checking Lowes before Home Depot.
Now the Wrist Roller/Wrist Leverage Bar Combo:
Same process as before with the "Twist yo Wrist" as far as threading the rope through and attaching a carabiner. Then i took the flex coupling and chopped it in half to use as clamps. It looked like regular spring clamps would be too big for the ABS pipe so i chose to use the coupling, plus i think it makes it look badass.
To hold the olympic plates i got a 3/8 x 6" eyelet bolt, two washers and a lock nut to make sure it wouldn't come unscrewed. The whole in the olympic plates is big enough to fit over the eyelet, so it loads just like a regular plate pin. In the pic it still has the regular nut on it, and not the lock nut.
here's another pic:
Just wanted to say that these weren't my original ideas obviously, but i did think it would be a good idea to make a combo wrist roller/wrist leverage bar. Now all i have to do is buy some 2.5lb weights because 10lb is just a little bit much lol. This was a really fun project and i recommend everyone to make homemade stuff. If i didn't already have the rope, i would probably use some thin steel cable rope merely for the awesomeness.

Monolift attachment for Power Rack
I am wondering if anyone has made a monolift attachment for their power rack. I have seen some good examples of a simple design that slides over the pin safeties of a power rack. One benefit of this design is that it can be removed from the rack when not in use. If you search "Poor Man's Monolift" on Youtube, you can see some examples.

Firgured I'de post some stuff on here I've made recently.
I guess I'm one of the fortunate to actually be in the business of fabrication. I have a 25k sq.ft. shop, and have done pretty much anything associated with strongman comps. I've built alot of these things for friends, sleds, loadable hammers, macebells, push-up spikes, farmer walkers. I'm actually looking for a house in Western Maryland with a garage to build my own gym.
I also uploaded a picture of some hitch handles which are named Eddie Van-handles for the guy/gal asking about how to build a set.

I need some plans for a small squat rack. Looking to build one in my garage but i have a small garage and my car still needs to fit in when i park it at night. From the wall to almost where my cars tyre has to be is like 1 meter 1.2 meters if im lucky. width wise i got enought space to work with, but the cage will have to be like 1.5 meters. Any advice where i can get plans for a rack like that. Actually i want more of a cage than a rack but im not too picky, will prolly be using chains for safty bars since i can atach it to the roof in my garage.

I can buy it yeah .... but at what price, haha. No i looked for them but i cant afford it, i made the equivalent of $750 a month, cuz im south african and our economy sucks, so if i buy one its like $500, vs making one or having one made for $100
. Just actually got a call from a guy who is selling plates at $1.875 per kg.
