    Taking the plunge

Hey ladies ~ I've been lurking here for several months and finally decided that it's time to get off my butt and get moving.
Long story short, was a tiny size 3 back in high school (15 years ago!), had my daughter just before I turned 20. Haven't seen under a size 9 since. Currently bouncing between 14-16 at 212 lbs. Was at 198 last July when I decided to quit smoking and then packed on an additional 25 lbs. I had dropped 11 of those about 6 weeks ago but then had a nasty breakup and I stopped exercising. So here I am, ready to get back on track again.

Reading all your posts and seeing your pics have been motivating. I've been home sick all weekend so bb.com is just about all I've done today.

I've got a pretty good grip on the nutrition part recently, it's getting the motivation to exercise that I've got the most issues with. A couple of friends and I are currently looking at some fitness bootcamps here in town, we are hoping to decide this week and then get moving. Having a set schedule where I'm expected to show up is probably the most motivating thing for me. I have a hard time when it's just me doing it.

Anyway, keep up the good work, especially since it helps motivate me!

    ~Tay

Thanks guys! I just joined a gym today and I'm starting a 4 week bootcamp tomorrow. One of my friends is going to do it with me so I'll have extra help in the accountability area (always my issue!). I'm super motivated now! Taking measurements & before pics (yelp!) tonight!

I'm reading as much as possible on here, hope to learn a ton more than I already have from you ladies!

Consider spending the money and getting a hydrostatic test done to measure your BF% and LBM accurately. You'll know your starting point and there's no guessing with the calipers or digital scales that inaccurately give you a BF%. I did it last week so I recommend everyone do it. Every city should have some place near them. Check the nearest college and see if they have the testing or a bodpod is another accurate test.

I briefly looked into this last night and there's a mobile unit that's gearing up to be in my area (within about 50 miles away) in a couple weeks. I think I'm going to e-mail them tonight & see about having it done. I've read that it really isn't all that expensive, most posts I"ve seen put it at less than a hundred bucks. I think it would be worth it. Since I'm so overweight calipers wouldn't work even if someone knew how to use them right. Wish I had known that before I spent $20 bucks on them a couple months ago! I've learned to research first and buy later!

As it is though, I over-estimated on my BF so that at least I have some sort of deficit going on. I seem to be doing ok at about 1900 cal, still working on getting the macros right though. I finally got them figured out by using Emma-Leigh's sticky, just took about half an hour and 3 passes through the calculations! I'll readjust after I do a hydrostatic test. I'm losing and I'm not starving or lacking energy so I must not be too off right now!

Bootcamp starts in 2.5 hours. I'm pumped about it! Headed off to get a new workout outfit in a few.

OK, so TRX Bootcamp is killer!! My arms got the worst of it, they feel like jello. The first 15 min was the worst, but I feel good now that it's over with!

Found out that they actually have a machine at the club that measures bodyfat, I didn't catch the name of it though and I was too sore to ask her to repeat it LOL. We have to be there early on Thursday so she can measure it. So looks like I don't have to worry about spending money to have it done. I'm assuming is a decent machine since the club just went through a major renovation & upgrade this year, but I'll find out for sure on Thursday. Can't wait to find out just how bad it is =)

The biggest thing I need to work on now is getting enough water in. I think I need to switch to a 16.9 oz bottle because the 20 oz bottle gets too hot before I can finish it. I like my water ice cold, can't drink it warm. I've got 40 oz in today, so hopefully can get another 24 in before bed!

You can find the bottles with the frozen insert that you screw into the top and it helps keep the water cold. I believe there are insulated bottles as well. I like cold or room temperature. Makes no difference. Milk is a different matter. Got to have my milk nice and cold.

OK, so I got the test done today, it was just with the handheld thingy that I know isn't as accurate as the hydrostatic. Mine came to 40%, 126 LBM which means 84 lbs of fat. Which is pretty much what I expected based on my research & what I've see others post with similar stats. She said we'll measure again after we're done with bootcamp & she wants me at 30 by then. I'm like are you kidding me? She said it's possible if my diet is on target. If I'm calculating correct, I'll need to drop 25-30 lbs. That's too much for a months time. Oh well, at least I have a general idea of where I'm at. I'll take the challenge & go for it, at least that way I know I'll give it my all!
