as of now, i do 3xF (usually means 10-12) so when is it a good time to switch from body weight pull-ups/chin-ups to weighted pull-ups/chin-ups? would i have to get into the 20 rep range, 25, or even 30 before attempting?

if i can do more than 3 sets of 8 then i will move up in weight. it's what i've been doing and i went from bodyweight to 45 lbs weights in about a month. although 45 lbs are killing me now.

i like using the dip belts. you can also try the chains if your gym has them.

i use chains usually. sometimes dip belts. i can tell you that much.. i cud do only like 10 reps of pullups, n then i started going into pyramid training n ****
and now i can do 5x5 of pullups with 50 lbs dumbell.. recently i tried to do normal pullups and i could do 26 in one set. so i would just start doing weighted pullups now.

thanks; i think i'll be using the belt so i dont have to concentrate on keeping the weight around my ankles.
can any of you in here do those pull-ups where you extended beyond neck to fully lockout on top? if so, how long did it take you to do that and is that exercise really effective or just something to show off?

Where can you buy a chinup belt? Checked on this site and couldn't find one...

If you can do 3x10 with ease, then you could start adding weight. Initially I waited until I could do 3x15 with ease, and then I added 10 pounds. Once I got to 25 pounds added, I started moving up when I could do 3x10, and found a weight I could do 3x8 with. I'd work at that weight until 3x10 was easy. I've been doing this for about six months, and I'm currently doing 3x8 with 70 added pounds.
My gym has a belt that says BodyBuilding.com on it, but I looked through the store and couldn't find it. If you have a belt, though, use it. Good luck.
