This is what the flex mag says...
Width frequently corresponds to height, but at 5'5", Columbu was broader than even bodybuilders who towered over him, and at his peak he likely never lost a back pose. In addition to his wideness, his lats, traps and spinal erectors were remarkably dense, due in part to his powerlifting background. Weighing around 200 pounds, the Sardinian strongman reportedly deadlifted more than 700.

I think Francos lats has better sweep than arnold's and he had incredibly thick spinal erectors.. that arnold could not match.. arnold had the detail... but the sheer thickness of franco's back was enough to win.

Franco does have ridiculously low inserting lats - However Joel Stubb's back is pretty off the hook in terms of sheer size. Wolf probably has the widest back at the mo - would love to see a comparison between him and Stubbs from the back.

I'll be BACK!
Not the greatest by a mile but I think he coulda been up there in the Top 20, but regardless of what any poll or magazine decides it's a subjective sport and for some his back was to weak but for me..damn I'd love my back to look like that..obviously if he wasn't so tall or if his back was thicker it would have been that much more impressive....Not the greatest of all time but still a thumbs up in my book..

Haney wasn't top 3, Joel Stubbs was. It was a load of **** because it had Art Atwood in never mind had him in the top 15, Jay Cutler was top 10 ahead of Victor Martinez. I cant remember all the rest of the list person for person but I'll dig it out tomorrow and I'll post again then the complete list and let others decide.

I have that issue of Flex and if I remember it right, the list and the rankings were accurate enough. Joel Stubbs has one of the best backs ever. He's not a household name in bodybuilding but he deserved the placing. Jay's back is better than Victor's if you consider everything and not just on sheer genetics. Heck, Jay's back development even surpassed Ronnie's after 2005. And the "Back" is Art Atwood's best bodypart and one of the best in the pro ranks.

I wasn't saying that Joel Stubbs had a bad back, what I was saying is that you were wrong in saying Lee Haney was in the top 3. Just because Art Atwoods best body part is his back, doesnt mean it should be included in this list, I can think of alot that are better than his. And there is no way Jay has a better back than Victor. Vctor has better detail, better shape, better taper and everything. Flex Wheeler coming 13th I thought was a joke as well.

It's your opinion that Martinez has a better back than Jay but many will disagree including the whole staff at Flex who may know a lot more better than a kid like you who is new to the sport.
Flex Wheeler lack width in his back. The details are there but the width is not at par with the top 10 best "backs" of all time.

A kid like me who is new to the sport. Right oh. I dont see how anybody can agree with the majority of that list. It isnt just me who thinks Martinez has the better back, it is what everyone was saying last Olympia. Flex lacks width but Cutler lacks detail. Martinez has them both but he is still behind Jay.
