I wasn't going to respond, because I find their marketing extremely cheesy and distasteful. It's sure to suck in plenty of thoughtless people(I'm think I wasn't one, lol). I somewhat hate to admit I have them.

But...I have them and have used them a few times now. They do hit the forearms extremely well. Nothing has hit my forearms as well, not even direct forearm work. But at the same time, they take some of the load off of the target muscle. For example, with DB bicep curls, they make the forearms take over a considerable amount of the load early in the rep and as you descend lowering the dumbell because of the increased grip width needed. And you can't necessarily compensate by just going heavier, as it may be too hard to do so. I hope this makes sense, I'm sure a visual would be much better.

I will only be using them on specifically wrist/forearm exercises and that is fine because that is what I intended to use them for. But the website makes it seem like it's highly ideal to use them for EVERYTHING.

Just wanted to put an honest opinion out there.

So I’m at the Arnold Classic recently and saw the FatGripz booth; another one of those “why the hell didn’t I think of this?!” simple products that adds so much potential value to a workout for the cost, it’s a ‘no-brainer’ to own them. While at the booth, I did a few sets of chins ( see minute 3:20 of vid from Arnold below) and as usual, I could feel it in my grip, and arms much more so then if doing it without the FatGripz. They are one of those uber simple cost effective products that simply works in an increasingly overly complicated world, but more on that shortly…

Here’s a simple fact of life: if your back and legs can dead-lift 700lb, but your grip ends at 300lbs, your dead-lift is 300 lbs. Thus, your grip is truly the final link in the chain that dictates what you can pull off the ground or what you can hold onto in general, be it a chin up bar, barbell, or other objects. Your grip is your ultimate contact with the weights. For strength athletes, such as power lifters, strongman competitors, and others, grip strength is king. Without it, you are no place. When it comes to strength, you are only as strong as your weakest link and most strength athletes know that fact all too well.

Ok, so let's separate the science and marketing to add some truth to these products:

Claim: "Thick Bar = More Muscle"
Science: How much weight you're able to move is not limited by the target muscles, but your grip. BEFORE you can start adding more weight to your target exercises, you must first strengthen your grip (via this product).

So really, it's not as if the product magically works your muscles better, it simply forces your grip strength to increase (which it must do before you start seeing benefits).

Now of course, this concept breaks down when your grip is in fact stronger than your target muscles. My grip is easily 10x stronger than what I can curl, so this will NOT help with my ability to curl weight and thus jack up my biceps. Arguably, the only thing this is useful for is deadlifting.

And for those that have large hands, a wide grip like this will make things easier, not harder. What I find hard is gripping normal bars because I have to wrap my fingers around them no less than 30 times in order to actually have a solid grip :P

I really, truly cannot stand the "punch you in the face" type of marketing this site uses. I don't need you to tell me you're going to back up every word you say - you sound like the most awkward salesmen ever :S

nothing revolutionary about thick bar work. many swear by it. and this product seems like a decent way to have a thick bar at the ready wherever you work out. not all gyms have fat bars. mine doesn't. i've been meaning to pick these up for some time. thanks op for the reminder.

Bingo, but this is bb.com where people either (1) show extreme ignorance on a topic yet don't mind commenting or (2) have to whine about everything, or (3) a little of both.

Actually I think are mostly commenting about the product not the fact that thick bars have been around for a long time.

As i said, most gyms no longer carry thick bars so any newb to the world of bb'ing might not have yet come across this.

No longer carry them? Few ever did. I have been in gyms of all kinds coast to coast over almost 30 years now, and could count on one hand the gyms that had a set of thick handled dumbells/barbells.

The comments speak for themselves. People say a lot of ignorant sh&* and or whine alot in these here parts if you have not noticed. Ergo, many would spend $40 on some worthless tub of NO Ultra Green Muscle Exploder supp, but not on a simple gizmo that will actually do something and last essentially forever.

    Cont: http://www.brinkzone.com/articles/in...-grip-strength

I don't get it though, wouldn't these essentially make your grip worse? Such as the reason why alot of people dont like to wear gloves, because it makes the bar wider.

edit: not saying its bad, just wondering the facts behind how it works before i consider buying
