do whatever you want. You need to alternate which is your over/under hand, as the stimulus will be slightly different for the different sides.
Why not invest in straps, and do grip work outside of your heavy sets?-

I have a hard time believing you are rowing 220 correctly, but do not know what "grip work" is....maybe you should lower the weight and do them without straps and build grip work up....the bar being wet from sweat is something we all go through..
If you are doing them right, then any chalk or strap will work but don't alternate.
