In my opinion, it's probably a negative parabolic curve.. pushups will help you bench more up to a point, but once you get to a certain level with your bench, they will probably start breaking you down more than helping.

Iv been doing weighted pushup on a set of pushup handles at the end of my bench workout. I feel its helped my lock out on the bench a good amount. I do 5 sets of 10 or 15reps.

I am not sure how true this is but a friend once told me to give this a try. He stated to pick a weight and do that for a cumulative 150 reps. Doesn't matter how many sets as long as you do 150 reps. But as the weeks go on try to hit fewer sets. Like I said not sure how effective this is but he swore by it.

According to many contributors here: adding chains is way cooler, more hardcore (whatever the heck that means), and more effective...

I train my assistance in a style similar to this.
When I am doing bodybuilding phases I will put say 225 on the bar and say 50 total reps. Its nice because it means you never leave anything in the tank after a set.
Or 315 and 20 total reps ect ect.
I still do it with little stuff like pullups and such. 150 sounds a little high. That would take at least 45 minutes if you were using moderate weight
edit- haven't done a pushup in 2-3 years. I personally think that unless one is an adolescent or a fat-loss worker they aren't needed. At least not for powerliftingLast edited by Torrtrefireto; 03-02-2010 at 07:12 AM.
