Close grip Benchpress..do u tuck in elbows?

i noticed like skullcrushers..if i tuck in elbows for close grip benchpress..it becomes damn hard..and i can hardly do it with decent weight.

so should i let the elbows go out...will it be effective enough to work the triceps?

I like to tuck my elbows because this creates less pressure on the shoulder joint and more on the elbow joint. This is beneficial because a shoulder joint(ball and socket) is far less stronger than an elbow(hinge) joint.

    Keep ur elbows in!

When they flare out, you are no longer effectively using the movement for triceps..(u will be adding in additional muscles)..

    ^^This^^

Don't worry about the weight, get your form right then the weights will increase.

If you flare your elbows you will bring in more chest and front delt involvement. Obviously you will still get some chest and front delt involvement with your elbows tucked in but you will minimize their involvement and put as much stress on your triceps as possible.

no negs, but this is false. think of a powerlifters bench press. they tuck their elbows in on the negative and explode out to activate more of the chest for a stronger lift.

elbows out DOES in fact hit your triceps more and gives them more ROM.

    I disagree.

Keeping your elbows tucked in with a close grip does put more stress on the tricep.

I'm not an expert in powerlifting, but I understand the reason powerlifters tuck their elbows in is to recruit the triceps in the lift. Their grip is wider than shoulder width do they will recruit the chest and front delts, by tucking their triceps in they are using their triceps maximum force.

    That's my opinion anyway!

I always keep my elbows tucked in when doing close grip bench. As an above poster mentioned work on form first then the weight will come. Close grip bench + dips = killer tricep workout imo.

That is false, more of the workload is placed on the tri's with the elbows tucked.

    ^ That

Powerlifters don't completely tuck their elbows, but they keep them in. That enables them to recruit their lats, and tris into the lift along with their chest to get the most powerful lift possible.
