Are squats supposed to tire you out?

I feel that whenever I do a set of squats, it tires me out a lot and I have to take like a 2 minute rest in between sets. Is this normal?

    For instance:
I squat the bar about 10 times just to warm up a bit
    I then start with 245x10
    then continue 255x10
    and finish 275x8
and sometimes i do the bar about 15x to practice good form

    Am I doing something wrong?

I would be more worried if you didn't need a rest in between sets. The very fact that you feel stuffed means you're putting your nervous system under extreme pressure. Some say you need 90 seconds for your muscles to feel better, but up to 4-5 minutes for your nervous system to recover.

You get tired after performing strenuous tasks? Weird. You might need to see a doctor.

    The sarcasm is cute

As for the others, when I do bench or military press or deadlifts or leg press, it doesn't tire me nearly as much..only during squats do I feel exhausted.. how much rest between sets is normal for most exercises?

This is true, and there is nothing wrong with a two min rest when squating.
    Last weak,after a while i did that 20 rep with 10 rm squats,and i had to vomit.
Sounds weird, but i never felt better.
As many ppl say,its the granddaddy of all exercise, and if u know how to do them,
and u can pull maximum benefit out of them, longer rest is not the problem at all.
    Nothing to worry about

    Yes.

Rest long as you need between sets to recover but not to warm down.

Hell, I usually need like 4-5 minutes. Squats kick your ass in a way that benching and other "big" lifts don't. Think about it, you're moving your whole body up and down, plus a heavy ass weight on your back. It's intense.

I do, however, get my ass kicked just as much from deadlifts, sometimes more. If you're finding deads to be in any way "easy" compared to squats, you might need some more weight on that bar... just a thought.

I cant believe some moron is suggesting poor diet is why you feel tired after doing squats. Just shows how some internet heros see something in one threaqd and try to copy it on another without having a clue what they are talking about!

    OP,

Squats tax the CNS and muscular systems like no other exercise (including dead lifts) "at higher reps".

Rest as long as you need between sets. There is no official time limit.

If you were "not" exhausted I would say, you were not using enough weight and/or reps but this isn't the case.

Same here, I don't do too much the rest of my workout when I do either of those. I also get light headed on my heavier sets.

    lol.

Squats along with heavy deads and even heavy bench...infact any moderate-heavy composite done right will have you needing to rest inbetween sets.

Squats and Deadlifts are supposed to drain and exhaust you unless your not doing them right. I once went for 20 reps with a moderate weight on squats and it taxed me completely, I actually got lightheaded and had to sit down for a few minutes, But finished my session .

i agree that other exercises with the right amount of weight and force can leave you drained.

dips for example, doing them weighted its one of my toughest exercises and i take long rest in between sets.

I feel like taking a nap after deads and squats. Means you're doing something right.

Personally, I'd rather just break out into some squat rack curls when that happens.

There's a reason Animalpak.com has a shirt that says, "Squat till you puke" or something like that. About a month ago, I actually did due to speeding my sets up. Squats stress your body imho more than any other workout. It's the one exercise that separates the men from the boys!

Damn guys thanks for all of the responses; my diet is getting better, definitely not clean; and I usually get good sleep. I just started taking White Flood so we'll see what difference it makes.
