Exclamation Cant lift left arm. Extreme shoulder pain. Whats wrong?

Im 19 and I have been doing the Ab Ripper X workout for about two weeks now and doing it every other day. After this I do push-ups. Last night I did a few push-ups but then after about 3 hours I noticed a sharp pain in my left shoulder. When I woke up this morning it was even worse. I could not sleep on my left side and can barely lift my left arm. There is an extreme amount of pain right at the top of my left shoulder. I can bend my elbow and my forearm fine with no pain but I can only lift my left arm a few inches until the pain starts in my shoulder. Did I do something or pop something? Is it because I am starting to working out? Should I see a doctor?

    Thanks

That's what it fell like for me when I tore my labrum, but I can't see you doing much damage with the activities you said you were doing.

You think the pain will dicipate after a few days or should I see a doctor if it does not?

You might have developed tendinitis in your shoulder, but I'm not ruling out a partial tear, so my suggestion would be go see an orthopedist who specializes in shoulders.

the same thing happened to me. turned out that i had a strain in my rotator cuff. couldnt lift weights for quite a while. you should definitely go see a doctor to get it checked out.

Tendinitis, sprained or torn rotator cuff, impingement, frozen shoulder, or just something harmless that will go away... lots of possibilities. If not better in a few days, see a doc. (None of these will kill you but all, except the last, will make it hard to lift and will restrict the range of motion of your shoulder, possibly forever.)

Got this going on right now. I'm over 50, got done with a workout last Monday, by the time I got home... not good. Still in mortal pain. Some days are better than others. I've been researching this a bit.... I'm thinking from the research it's one of these as the culprit:

Subscapularis (which lies UNDER the shoulder blade),

Supraspinatus (which lies ABOVE the spine of the shoulder blade),

Infraspinatus (which lies UNDER the spine of the shoulder blade)

Teres Minor. To these four muscles we will add the

Found this article so I'm going to keep looking into it. I'll email my doctor too and see what he suggests.
