There are the obvious ones but can you think of words that you hate that aren't as common as bulk, ripped, six pack abs, etc.

Definitely I don't want to get bulky and I want to tone. Also you forgot the turn fat into muscle one. I get that a lot.

Lmao, oh boy, hear it every day.
Core is obviously the one that wins, it's been a hot topic in the fitness industry for quite some time and I don't think it will go. That word itself sells.
One phrase I laugh at every time I hear is the ol' "I don't want to lose weight, I just want my belly to go down".I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying.
I'm not out there sweating for three hours every day just to find out what it feels like to sweat.

"I want to gain about 5kgs (10lbs) of muscle and have ripped abs"
Im not sure why 5kgs (10lbs) is the magical number for the clients i speak too but it seems to be very common - dont get me started on the ripped abs comments ....what i say is "go to the butcher and get 5kgs of lean steak.....thats alot of muscle yes? Lets start with 1-2kgs and keep it lean"Stay humble. I will never see myself as even an above average bodybuilder. Regardless of how many shows you win, stay grounded and aim for improvement.

When telling a woman who's goal is weight loss that they'll inevably get some muscle tone as they lose weight they say "i don't want to get muscles."
Well tough s**t! You were born with them. How else do you expect to move. Besides, women have to work extremely hard to bulk up, usually with the use of steroids or testosterone boosters.

"I just want to lose this fat" (wobbling arm/stomach/thigh)
I kinda give up on the whole toning BS..... I tell them what they want to hear to make them do the exercise when obviously its building muscle. "Ok, this exercise is going to tone your XXXX"Last edited by jules_d1; 01-25-2010 at 07:10 PM.

When girls worry about gaining muscle, I show them this client of mine. I ask them If they want to look like that and they say YES YES! Then I continue to tell them difference in weight in those two pictures as about 15lb as she put on some great muscle TONE (yes tone just to make them happy). After they see this they kinda start to get their head around it all.
If anyone is really worried about "bulking up". I say "You're not going to put on any big muscle mass. If you somehow find a way to bulk up fast, let me know coz Id love to know your secret!"
Said client
