    I used to be a big fan of this simple diet but in my opinion it is not really ideal for one main reason: bloating. For me, whenever I would have a cheat meal or be off on my calories a little, I would end up bloating. There wasn't much wiggle room for calories in other words.

    All I can say is if you want to stay lean and stop the bloating you need to do some sort of cardio. I've found HIIT works very well for me. Since I started doing that I can have huge cheat meals and wake up looking hardly bloated (IE the other night where I ate 9 ice cream sandwiches, a chicken pot pie, and proatmeal) and woke up still looking great.

    Also in on this. Following IIFYM with reasoning, ie I don't go crazy on McD etc, I try to eat as 'clean' as possible, but I will sometimes eat crap. My interpretation of 'clean' is pretty much avoiding all-sugar stuff, like candy and soft drinks, and minimizing on junk food.

    I have been lifting for about a year (May '11), started my cut March 1st being 85kg, 1.87m tall and about 20% bf. I went skiing for a week, in which I didn't really follow my cut, and ingested above maintenance. This probably set my cut back 1-2 weeks. Due to falling nasty during skiing, I have since been unable to lift (this means I have not lifted since 15th of March). My maintenance during lifting was about 2850, currently (very sedentary lifestyle) it is about 2200. After my skiing break I aimed for 2150 kcals every day (was doing a 700 kcal deficit before), but then I realized my maintenance has gone down a LOT too, due to not lifting anymore. I have been aiming for 1900 kcal the past week.

    I can see my weight going down on the scale, however it seems my bf% is hardly decreasing. It only shows in the mirror in the mornings, when I am not bloated yet from eating the entire day, but at night I would say I have not progressed. I am currently at 80kg, meaning I have lost 5kg - obviously some of it is just pure water my body is no longer holding due to me not training anymore, I am afraid some of it is muscle too, but I would say most of it is fat. It sucks to see my weight drop on the scale, but hardly seeing progression in the mirror.

    Staying on 1800-1900 kcal until I can lift again though, then I will up it to 2150 again.

    Doing this myself started 2 days ago, im 6ft and weigh 186lbs, this suits me down to the ground because im not one to calculate macros n all that ****, i try to get as close to 160grams of protien as i can a day, ive been eating clean/no sugar and tend to keep it this way but maybe have a junk food day 1 day out of 7 still staying in the 500 calorie deficit.. im the skinny fat type, hoping to get lean then go on a clean bulk from there.. cheers for the info.

    Exclamation In a deficit and still not losing weight

    Been on 2500 cals for 2 days and still no weight loss

    What about expenditure?

    Hey thanks for the info! So ive worked out my maintenance kcals, 1979kcals, so how do I work out how much I am meant to eat after working out. Because if i just eat 500cals less than my maintenance I will be far too low. can you please advise? Im quite confused! How do I work out expenditure vs maintenance? Cheers

    My Activity level : Not sure its low compare to standard but for me its challenging. I do average 6000 steps per day (target 10,000) , unfortunately drop on weekends [family man Smile] I do home workouts free squats , dumbell curls/shoulder press/ Lateral raise /chest press /lying flyes , Kettlebell rows , Plank , knee pushups every other day . If I feel fatigue then take two days rest in between ( I have to wakeup at 1AM every day because of our super active baby boy Smile ) . Also I do some swings when I'm not on above workout . i'm waiting for my 8kg kettlebell , to add shoulder press Smile hopefully from mid of this week [for some reson I enjoy doing kettlebell movements ] . So as you can see I'm not active like professional body builder , if it is the standard then I'm not sure I'm even close to moderate level !
    To hit protein I use Tuna , Chicken , eggs, Greek Yougurt , Cottage cheese and Whey supppliments . I eat aroung 100g of Tuna/Chicken per lunch and dinner then top up rest with Greek Yougurt , Cottage cheese or Whey supppliments. hard to increase tuna/chicken intake as I'm not a much of a meat fan. For lucnch I top up with Greak yougurt , don't want to show my shaker at office ! [if there is a way to have whey not in shake form I might have another top up around 4 PM , anyway I have my dinner by 7PM)

    You will find that cheat meals usually ruin your macro needs. Would you rather have an entire day of broccoil, bananas, oatmeal, yogurt, steak, bacon, eggs, etc. or two slices of pizza and one protein shake?

    I usually allow myself to eat some junk food, but not a lot because then I'll end up going to bed hungry if I want to stick to 1800 cal.
    Maybe half of cup of ice cream (150 cal) or a slice of pizza (250 cal). Anyway you get the idea, out of my 1800 cal... it's max 300-400 from junk food.
