Quick update: I'm in Miami, just came back from Haiti. I'm down here doing medical volunteer work. Looks like my coding skills are going to come in handy down there, and I'm going back to help set up an electronic medical records system for possibly the whole country.

So the diet and cut log is on hold for a while now - I'll be gone for the next 2 weeks at least, possibly as long as 6 weeks.

Thanks everyone for participating in this thread and for all of the advice you guys have given me (belmont, BSD, makavelicss, godsangina, etc). This is pretty f*cking exciting. I'll pick things up when I get back.

    Peace brahs

trust me its normal. I began feeling like that when my neck/chest/shoulders were getting lean but belly fat remained. for me it was most stubborn but when it started going it seemed like it went quick

Is cutting for a great length of time hard on your body? I was thinking about just leaning out as much as I can for another 3 months, but at the end of this month is when I'd be hitting the 6 month mark for this cut now. Too long or keep going?

I'm down to 185 from 198 at the end of April. Strength is still going up the gains are coming more slowly. I'll probably throw a picture up in here in a couple weeks.

Brahs - I totally underestimated the amount of fat I had on me. Feels like I'll never get to where I want to be. I'm going to continue cutting until a) I'm happy or b) September 15. At that point I'm going to go on a SLOW, clean bulk. Should have never been an idiot last year and gone the Rippetoe GOMAD route. Put way too much fat on. At any rate, here is a pic I took over the weekend.

How long have you been cutting for? If it's been over 6 months I'd give it a break.

Thanks buddy - you've come a long way. I remember when you first started posting here and now you're looking good (no homo). Started cutting in March, but got off track the first of June due to all the travel I was doing for work. I've been hard into it now, though, since then. My waist continues to go down, but damn man every bit of fat I've got seems to want to hold on to the bitter end.

Yeah I remember chatting to you about a couple of things! Thanks for the help brah.

And oh I would keep cutting then however I wouldnt expect to get into single digits this time around as yeah like you said the more fat you lose the harder it becomes to shed more..Well it sure as hell seems that way

Im currently at 154 lbs, can sort of see "some seperation" occurring in its very first stages but at the end of this month will be 6 months cutting for me.

    Should I:

A). Go for another 1-2 months and see what happens

B). Start SLOW/CLEAN bulking (only 200-300 cals above maintenace / do I have to re-calculate my new maintenance now?) for 4 months and aim to gain about 10 lbs?

I don't want to keep yo-yo-ing my weight around, I'm afraid of ending up at 165 and and when I cut again I'll be in the same exact spot I'm in now. In theory, if I bulk correctly to 165, I should only have to cut back down to this weight to be lean the next time?

wow makavelics, I remember you asking me for advice when I was in front of you with my cutting, now I have to ask you. Did you ever do anything different than what is written in OP?

I'm probably cutting again in a few months because if you are not lean, you're nothing, that's what I've realized.

Also didn't notice insight's post about possibly being away 6 weeks for voluntary medical work further up there.

I just joined bb.com a month ago and have obviously missed the start of this thread, but I started my 500 cal deficit a month ago! Gonna take measurements each month and hopefully be ripped by next summer! I've made awesome gains in my squats, deadlifts, and bb bench, but I was 174 when I started and now I'm 176. Perhaps this is due to me gaining muscle? I hope? I've been tracking my intake on fatsecret.com and I am at the ~500 deficit definitely with ~170g protein per day.

    Should I:

Well .. Do you feel as if you could go another 1-2 months? I know after 3 months I was f*cked. Low energy was the main killer.

If you feel pretty good and can handle it then go for it. If you're completely drained of energy/lathargic/lack of motivation for the gym either have a rest week then carry on or go on a clean bulk for a bit.

I'm probably cutting again in a few months because if you are not lean, you're nothing, that's what I've realized.

Also didn't notice insight's post about possibly being away 6 weeks for voluntary medical work further up there.
I'll be cutting again I think too bro. But not yet. Blown my shoulder out and just binged on 3 pints of BnJ and a takeaway. Ha! ****it its been 4 months! Aaanyways..

Tbh bro you are young (as am I). I personally think at our age it would be best to clean bulk and make the most out of our test levels as theyre at the highest theyll ever be naturally.

Even if you clean bulk for another 6 months and put on 6/8lb of muscle it will make a large difference when you do cut. And it's coming to winter so now would be a good time.
F*ckit may aswell make it 8 months then cut from April into summer.

Also after 6 months bulking you will be sick of food and excited to cut.

And yes, it was seriously that easy. Manipulate calories until you are losing as much as you want... As I wanted to cut quick I lowered calories until I was on 2lb/week. Sure it was brutal but I had ALOT of fat to lose. Dont be afraid of losing muscle. Eat over your bodyweight in protein and lift as you would when bulking.

kinda sad I didn't start counting cals after my cut though, so I am here now with a few %'s of fat more.. and it's first now I look back at pics/vids and realize how low my bf was and how awesome it would be to go even lower.
My plan is to at least gain something out of my current bulk-phase, so far I haven't really made any new strength gains etc because of diversions like vacations and stuff.

Yeah definately bro I suggest bulking through winter but dont gain anymore than 2lb/month. That way its clean lean mass. Then cutting next year wont be so bad.

I dont even care for low BF.. After cutting I've realised how easy it really is, and as that was my first time it's only gonna get easier.

Lifes being a c*nt to me atm though so I cant workout.

that's easily 20 lbs + before you get to the ripped state. Just don't get too surprised if you are not there yet when you hit 185.

Well im not looking to be "ripped" because for me to do that I would have to lose a sh*t ton more weight because I dont exactly have a lot of muscle at all. Im just looking to get lean before I start my bulk. I'll be estatic with 11-13% BF.

If this is the case then you might as well do nothing. The whole idea is to lean out and gain muscles at the same time. Its difficult but can be done. You already admitted you don't have a lot of muscles so doing another bulk is gonna keep you looking soft/fat. My recommendation would keep lifting hard and keep leaning out. Clean up your diet.

    Can you elaborate more?

Im confused. 11-13% bf is a pretty lean BF to start bulking from.

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. What I'm trying to say is there is no point of doing a lean bulk on top of a body that doesn't have much muscles. Thats why I said you're still going to look soft/fat. You need to change up your routine and clean up your diet so that you're building muscles and losing body fat. Scroll up and and look at my pics. I'm around 10% bf and I look way different from you at 11-13%. I don't want to doubt you but you don't look like you're 11-13%bf. Something is way off or you need to change up what you're doing. You look more like you're at 20%bf.

If I thought I was that BF I would be delusional lol.Don't you think I should be cutting though?

edit: and im not lean bulking right now. I already said I am still in the process of cutting.

Yes definitely keep cutting until you've reach maximum leanness. Then you have a solid base to work with to proceed with a quality lean bulk. It's slower but better.
