I don't know about the whole rounds thing. I think we should be able to keep any player we want no matter where they were drafted, and then just give up that draft spot in next year's draft. The whole point of a keepers league is that the best players WON'T be available to draft, so you have to build your team through prospects and trades with other people.

4-5 is good with me too...even the worst team will have at least 4 players he'll want to keep.
Braves - Falcons - Hawks

I agree with 5 keepers.

I think drafting is one of the things that draws me back to fantasty sports. Knowing I can rebuild. I like what bbacon said or something like:
Rounds 1-3 (1 Keeper)
Rounds 4-7 (1 Keeper)
Rounds 9-End (3 Keepers)
Thats only 5 keepers per team and only 70 keepers in all. (Lets not forget that pitches can be keepers also)
That way the draft is still VERY IMPORTANT come next year, and then we can bump the keeprs up again.aka: TwYcH
Pistons, Lions, Tigers, Tide

If everyone doesn't like the rounds (as I have read)
What if we did just 5 keepers like this:
You must keep:
2 Pitchers
2 Batters
and your 5th keeper can be either.
(this way out of the 70 players not in the draft, we can have it evenly spread between pitchers and batters)aka: TwYcH
Pistons, Lions, Tigers, Tide

No one in this league wants to draft prospect for some reason... If were up to me, we would draft 5 prospect per team on the forum (because they arent on Yahoo to be drafted until they have seen Major League Time)
Losing out on a player like Jason Heyward, Mike Staton, Jesus Montero, Stephen Strasburg, or Martin Perez is stupid if somoe up at 5:30 am picks them up as soon as Yahoo adds them... Just my .02 cents.100% legit poster, no longer a troll. (dead serious)

I understand some don't follow or keep up with Minor League players but google is a powerful tool.

and we would only be drafting 70 per year.100% legit poster, no longer a troll. (dead serious)

UHH Of course it would still work captain obvious. I just thought most of us were baseball nuts and thought the idea of drafting our favorite prospects might be appealing. I guess not. Just dont rage if I get ur favorite one, and I will agree to not as well. I wont bring it up again.

I kinda feel similar to this. No one is going to keep any prospects. Everyone is just gonna keep major players. That's why I thought at least a couple should be from lower rounds to try and prevent this. That way prospects/up and coming guys are still an important part.
To me, keeper leagues should have some kind of prospects that need to be kept and I thought restricting a few to the lower round would kind of enforce this.
Edit:
If we're allowed to just keep our first 5 picks I think it places way too much importance on the draft of the first year. That one draft would really dictate the entire league for a number of years.Last edited by bbacn123; 01-26-2010 at 08:22 AM.

Not all prospects are listed in yahoo. Just depending on where they are at the minor league level, players get added at various stages into the yahoo player base. When those players are first added they are placed on waivers for 2 days. Then anyone wishing to pick them up can put in a request and claim them just as they can any player.

Then stop complicating things so much. This is a bodybuilding forum, if you want some advanced league this isn't the right place. I'm looking for a league that is competitive and fun but not too time consuming. I've never really followed prospects and I know that's the same for more than just me.
I personally think it's stupid that the two options getting thrown out there are separating keepers by round or dealing with prospects. I probably wouldn't want to keep a guy from the 10th round anyways. I like the fact that I get to keep the basis of my team each year. If you want a guy, offer me a trade! The draft is still important since you're going to want to replace guys every year.Leafs, Raptors, Jays, umad?

I don't think drafting 5 additional players is complicating things too much.
Why is it stupid that ideas are being thrown out their for discussion? This is THE THREAD for discussion on the league. Just because you don't agree with every idea (and no one would) it doesn't mean the idea is stupid.
Have an open mind and stop coming off so condescending to every idea I throw out, I am just trying to make the league better and more interesting.Last edited by TexasHeat; 01-26-2010 at 09:35 AM.

I agree with your statement. Thats why we should do something like this:
So out of 70 keepers: Only 35 of the top batters would be taken and 35 of the top pitches.
Another:
What if there was a limit on the amount of time you can "Keep" a player. Lets say you draft him, you can only have him for two (or three years) years and then you have to put him back into the draft pool the 3rd year (as would everyone else with 2 year starters) You could still pick him back up in the draftaka: TwYcH

Agree. Since no one want to draft prospects, we should allow 1 or 2 keepers that we picked up from the free agent pool, in addition to the 5 we keep from the actual draft. (since were gonna be picking up the prospects once they are added to the system.
So 1 keeper first few rounds, 2 6-10, 2 11-end of draft, 1-2 free agent or waiver wire keepers.100% legit poster, no longer a troll. (dead serious)
