This sounds like a question looking for answer/ excuse to just sit around on the couch and be a fat pussy. Start lifting and eating right. Amazing things will happen.
Just show up. Move some iron. Put in the time. Eat enough food.

Well I am going to skip over the comments from the one post wonder, for now and say.... awesome work guys. So many inspirational members in what many of society would say is an "old" number.

Clearly you guys are turning the clock back!

I will add that not only is exercise good for your body, it is also good for your mind.

Back to the newbie poster. In order to make a change in your life a habit, some psychologists suggest you need to do the new activity for about 21 days and they your mind will habitualize the change.
This is true for something simple like hanging you coat up after work and putting your shoes in the closet, as it is for exercising.

Even though I know I will feel better afterwards, I go through the same mental battle every time I exercise.
Now that I am getting older and the mind is slipping, it should technically be easier. For some reason it's not Maybe the senility and deafness is just a faade that I can use as a crutch when I forget something at groceries, or on my wife's wish list

    Hi,
I'm over 65 and have started working out 3 days a week and I am gaining weight and rebuilding muscle after a few hospital stays.
I noticed I gained 1" on my biceps so I would say old guys like me can build muscle even at our age.

Absolutely Piperman. It's good that you have a good starting point. You obviously know how to go about it. I do one body part a day and I work out everyday.4 different weight movements for a total of 16 sets. Everyday I do abs and I eat lots of protein. Eggs, turkey and chicken with a minimum amount of red meat. Get to it my friend.

I will make the assumption that Piperman is a Highland Piper. If so then all I can say is that if you have learnt to play the highland bagpipe (the most difficult intrument in the world to play well. Anyone can make it sound like a dying cat) then you already have what it takes to learn about lifting and getting stong. A lot of the dicipline is the same. Patience, hard work, consistancy, small steps forward and a good mentor.
Anybody can workout for an hour but controlling what you eat the next 23 hours is the real task.

Well, PiperBill you get the credit for the hard work and patience; I'm a pipe organist and have been since age 14. So I guess I have experienced a good bit of patience and hard work, too! It applies to the gym as well as I try to keep this aging body in good shape.

Age 60. Weights still increasing. Since February, decreased body fat by 2%, increased lean body mass by five pounds.
At age 61, I've exceeded all my prior PRs. Not “over the hill” yet. :)

Different methods can work after 65 y.o. The main point is the consistency in training. I use only self-resistance at my 69 because of spinal problems, and it sill works.

Been using some resistance bands on accessories and pump work, but still can't drop my barbell on the big lifts. The bands seem to be joint friendly, at least so far.
