I've always been curious about this. It kicks my freaking ass every time I do the workout, and I was wondering if any of yall have any ballpark figures of calories burned? I know it differs from person to person..

well you see, it doesnt involve heavy ass to grass squats or deadlifts. there are also no weighted dips, or bb rows. so it is therefore obviously useless to the bbing.com community. there is always a theme on this forum that is considered the norm. everything else is dismissed.
just a small useless rant. sometimes people need to just keep an open mind and stick to whatever works for them.
and to answer original post...i have no idea sorry. but if you are getting results from it....dont shy away from it bc a stranger on an internet forum says it is useless. goodluckWHO DAT

I recommend you get a Heart rate watch to figure it out. Other than that, it's nearly impossible to figure out a legitimate number, let alone a decent approximation, on the number of calories burned. Why? Well, you already answered that - if differs from each person and their fitness level, as well as the effort they put in. Not everybody is going to work at the same intensity as the video demonstrates.
I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying.
I'm not out there sweating for three hours every day just to find out what it feels like to sweat.

thats why i borrowed it from my neighbor.
its good for leaning up. i did it a few years ago after i had surgery n sat on my ass for about 8 months n got fat. i went from about 178 to 161 in the first month. after that i went up a little and leveled off around 172ish. i agree that it doesnt build huge muscle but i did enjoy the results. cant argue with that.Last edited by Echo_1; 01-07-2010 at 06:42 AM.

shut up
OP, idk I'm guessing over 400 considering I can burn over 300 for 30 minutes on cardio with my heart rate at 140 and in p90x you definitely arent at just 140 lol and you do it for close to an hour in some workouts. I liked it when I did it, I just missed the gym too much and couldnt stand working out in my living room but i thought it was a good workout"Trust yourself, break some rules, don't be afraid to fail, ignore the naysayers, work like hell, and always give something back" Arnold Schwarzenegger

Thanks brotha
Continue being miserable I guess..I'd rather ask you guys on bb.com than go to some other BS website.. sorry about that?
Thanks for the response. Yes I am trying to lean out a lot so these workouts do the trick. I'll go grab a heart rate monitor asap.I am Ratdawg.

Hi,
usually it's about 400-600 cals a session.
Calories burned is related to
weight
average heart rate through session
gender
age
vo2max (if you know that)
duration
so, if your HRM only gives you AvgHR over the duration of the workout, you can figure out your calories burned, more or less.

P90X works for people who don't know what they are doing in the gym or who are in terrible shape. The reason it works is because you are given a set workout schedule, you are told what to eat, and you are forced to do the workouts. It takes all the guess work out of it and you can basically just follow someone else's instructions. If you know what you are doing in the gym you don't have to bother with P90X, and if you know how to eat clean, you'll get the desired results. Once you get to a certain level of fitness, even the P90X'ers, you won't do P90X any more. You can only get so far with it, then you need to change it up and hit heavier weights or different routines in the gym. It's a great starting point and gets you to a certain level, after that its time to move on.
As for the calorie loss of P90X, the reason it kicks your ass is because you don't get much rest time between sets and you are keeping your heart rate at (I would guess) 140-160ish. You can do the same intensity in your workouts at the gym, and if you do, and don't allow yourself to rest for more than 45-60 seconds, you will see the same kind of ass kicking. You will be dripping sweat while having a lot of muscle soreness the next day or 2 from the weight lifting.

I played D1 baseball for 3 years for a major program. I think I know a little bit about weight lifting/ strength training. I'm doing P90X for the exact reasons you hate it. I no longer have my weight trainers motivation, and I do not want to continue bulking. Bottom line is P90 works, so why the hell do you "badass" powerlifters have to constantly bash it.

Forgive the jest. Of course you do burn a good deal...the joke is I was waiting for someone like my friend Lucifer etc.. to say tree fiddy
There is also a video with some guy acting like he is king of the world (if anybody has that still and can post that would be awesome lol) talking about how P90X is so great etc..and how all the viewers wish they had his abs or something in that line cant remember. For those that remember that video that is where alot of the jest with P90X can possibly stem from as well.
Personally nothing takes the place of the iron.
Good luck!Last edited by Sir_Malak; 01-07-2010 at 03:05 PM.

This is why I prefer to go on other forums to ask questions about fitness. all the meat heads on here just criticize. P90x is a real work out and there is proof you can build muscle mass. Is it possible in 90 days? Not unless you're already in good shape and somewhat toned. But it does work. So if you're going to post useless messages that don't relate to the question or are just criticizing then just go blog about it.
Now, to answer your question. I used my heart rate monitor today during cardio x and supposedly burned a little over 500 calories. So you definitely want to get a hr monitor and set it to your age and weight, etc. Then find out what your target heart rates are for your workouts.
You can google search for people's estimated calorie burns too.Last edited by Wnt2BFit; 01-16-2012 at 09:22 PM.
