    do u guys use valsalva maneuver?

    rippetoes starting strenght says to use this breathing technique while lifting, it seems uncomfortable to me during squats...u guys use it???

    Absolutley - I genuinely can't imagine squatting or dling without it. I even do it benching, pressing, cleaning and snatching.

    Sure, sometimes it slips and you go *gnnnarpppffff* near the top, but hey.

    Do it - How else are you going to use your belt properly anyway?

    Its a good way to get black eyes, but it works. Breathing in through your nose instead of your mouth seems to help with it as well.

    most people when they breathe in through their nose tend to breathe with their bellies. whereas when they breathe through their mouths they'll hold the air higher up in their chest and mouth.

    to maintain tightness and effectiveness of holding your breath you need to take a deep breath and hold the air down in your belly.
