Clean & Jerks vs Cleans and Jerks

Going to follow a set program for a bit, an old article modified from the Weightlifting Encyclopedia. It has one day where the workout is Power Cleans, Rear Jerks, Back Squats and Benches. Is it better for a relatively inexperienced lifter to do the lifts broken up like this or to keep working on them as a whole?
Gnomefit...ain't for everybody, only the sexy people.

If one part of the lift is much worse than the other than it makes sense to work on it specifically. In the program above you are going to have to do the cleans and jerks (behind neck, it sounds like) separately.

I split up my lifts, snatch on day1, clean on day2 and jerk on day3...Although, for everyone who argues this method is best, there is someone else who will argue differentially.

Rear jerks, IMO, are a waste of time, as are power cleans. Your time could be better spent learning how to really clean and really jerk.

Different things work for different people, and there is no doubt that world champions have been trained on all types of programs... that having been said, it is my belief that every training session should start with snatch, move on to clean and jerk... then move on to remedial and strength work.

Even exercises as specific as jerk from the rack often doesnt translate well to a bigger clean and jerk... as evidence of this, one of my lifters recently jerked 215kg easily from the rack, and did 205kg from the rack for a triple... but also recently missed a 195kg jerk in competition after a relatively easy clean.

So, do the lifts! the other stuff to strengthen specific weaknesses or specific faults comes after you have snatched and clean and jerked...

    Just my opinion...

There is no cookie cutter program depends on the lifter and their needs.

Being a real lifter is not about a number, or a medal, or somebody else telling you that you are a real lifter. It is about commitment to the iron and strength of purpose.
