    Animal's next big thing...My Project Z Log

I was lucky enough to get a shot to alpha test Animal's next product codenamed Project Z for now...

I'll be logging as often as possible, though weekends will be iffy, for the next 4 or 5 weeks and letting ya'll in on how the product is helping me out as far as any strength increases, recovery time, etc.

Like some other logs said, the dosing is 1 pack per day taken on an empty stomach for the next 30 days. I should be receiving my sample can in the mail shortly and will log ASAP. If it comes in today, you'll hear about it tomorrow morning!

    Current stats:

    23 y/o
    6'4
    252 lbs.

    Chest - Monday
    Back - Tuesday
    Off - Wednesday
    Delts/Arms - Thursday
    Legs - Friday
    Off - Saturday & Sunday

    Eating around 2,500 calories & 250g protein daily...making a slow cut to 215

    Currently using:

    CL Orange Triad
    CL White Flood
    CL Green Mag
    CL Purple Wraath
    Universal Uni-Liver
    Universal EAA Stack

I'm really looking forward to these next few days and really consider it a priviledge to be able to do something like this. I hope my log gets some people hyped to check out the newest offering from such a great line of products!

    Day 1: Tuesday December 29, 2009

Received my Project Z can in the mail today...each pack is multiple capsules and tablets like all of the Animal products. Project Z smells less bad than Animal Pak and Uni-Liver though, and smells almost pleasant. You can kind of smell some fruit in the packs which was nice. The pack was easy to swallow and I got it down in one gulp with water.

Tonight I trained shoulders...this week has been a catch up week because I missed some during the holiday week. Next week will be back to the split I mentioned above.

    Time: 7PM-8:30PM

    Seated Military Press (Barbell) 2 WU Sets @ 135, 8x185, 8x205, 4x225
    Seated Military Press (Dumbbell) 8x70's, 8x85's, 5x100's
    Machine Shoulder Press 10x70, 10x85, 10x100
    Wide-Grip Barbell Raises 10x95, 10x115, 10x135
    Machine Laterals 10x100, 10x125
    Dumbbell Laterals 10x20's, 10x25's
    Machine Reverse Flyes (Superset) 10x75, 10x90, 10x105
    Barbell Shrugs 15x225, 15x275, 15x315

Took my Project Z pack last night, and while it's just day #1, my delts are less sore than last week when I attempted a very similar workout. I'm allowing for some placebo effect and won't jump on the bandwagon just yet, but for the first day, I feel good. Slept really hard and am a little slow this morning but that might have more to do with the 5AM phone call from my girl telling me she was going swimming and asking if I was going to do morning cardio than the Project Z

Also got a pretty cool Universal Retro bumper sticker in my box along with a sample of Pump and some Animal product info...the bumper sticker is a nice one, and they're running some kind of contest for who can slap it on the coolest thing and get a picture...winner each month gets some Animal supplement schwag so check that out guys! I'll check back tomorrow!

    Day 2: Wednesday December 30, 2009

Took the day off as I've worked each muscle group once this week. Sunday was Chest, Monday was Back and Legs, and Tuesday I hit Shoulders...normally my chest wouldn't feel fully recovered until Friday or Saturday after lifting on the previous Sunday, but today my chest feels good, like I could work it again today if I wanted. My back soreness has improved and my shoulders are feeling really good for only having one day of rest.

Took my Project Z last night around 11 after hitting up Chick-fil-a for a couple of chargrilled chicken sandwiches around 7:30. The pack really is pretty easy to down in one gulp. I think Nitro was probably the easiest for me because it's all capsules, and Pak probably the most difficult because of the number of pills, and Pump for some reason is hard for me to do in one gulp because of the spicey taste of some of the pills, which I guess is the ginger ingredient, but Project Z has been really easy even though the pills aren't coated for this trial run...so that's a big positive.

I may hit up the gym tomorrow (Jan. 1) during the day if there's nothing going on and I'm disinterested with the football on TV, if so I'll log it and all the exercises performed. If Project Z turns out to be the reason I'm feeling so much better, I may scrap the 4 day split and just lift based on how I feel. Either way I'll put it up on here.

Everyone be safe tonight, no stupid decisions, have a great NYE!

    Day 3: Thursday December 31, 2009

So I took the day off again because of NYE stuff but went out to dinner around 6PM and stayed 'til 8, and ate a bunch of Greek food and didn't feel like going out later that night so I stayed home, took my Project Z and crashed. I got woken up by my best friend's fiancee who was hysterical because he called and said he got in a fist fight and now wasn't answering his phone, so that drama unfolded between 1:30 and 3AM, so I got to sleep for real around 4 and slept until roughly noon.

This morning (Jan. 1) when I got up I had zero soreness in my chest and very little in my anterior delts despite working shoulders on Tuesday, and like I said yesterday, if I didn't feel like watching football, I'd hit the gym, which I did, and boy am I glad I did.

The new year's resolutioners are always alot of fun to watch, not so much the overweight people who typically know that they have alot to learn and are more willing to ask questions, it's the wannabe ex-jocks who think they already know everything and just pick things up and heave-ho them around that're funny. I tried to get a vid of one guy who was just ridiculous but he quit right before I got my cam ready.

So like I said, today I worked chest, and it was probably the best chest day of my life, which was a great way to start off 2010. Here's the routine:

    Incline Press (Barbell) 2 WU Sets @ 135, 8x185, 8x225, 8x225, 8x185
    Incline Press (Dumbbell) 8x80's, 8x90's, 8x100's, 6x110's, 4x120's w/ help on the 4th rep
    Decline Press (Barbell) 10x135, 8x185, 8x185
    Machine Pullovers 10x120, 10x135, 10x150
Decline Cable Flyes (Weight for Each Handle) 10x25, 10x25, 10x35, 10x35

Felt really really good today and I'd never pressed the 110's more than a few times before, and to do it after 7 sets of presses and with only 2 days since my shoulder workout, I was really happy with it. I don't know if it's the Project Z or not, but if this keeps up, I'll have to admit that it's helping for sure.

I may lift tomorrow, and if I do it'll be back/biceps, and I'll log it. Hope everyone had a safe night last night, and has a great 2010!

    Day 4: Friday January 1, 2010

Sorry I skipped out on logging the past few days...didn't have access to a computer over the weekend.

I continue to feel better and better with Project Z with less soreness and I'm sleeping harder it seems. I take the Project Z before bed and I think it does help calm me down and make it easier to fall asleep.

Had a good back/bi session today that looked like this:

    Barbell Rows 15x135, 10x185, 10x225, 6x245
    Cable Rows 10x100, 10x140, 10x180, 4x200
    Lat Pulldowns 10x120, 10x150, 10x180, 6x200
    Rope Pulldowns 10x70, 10x85, 10x100
    Machine Reverse Flyes 15x90, 15x105, 15x120
    Barbell Curls
    Machine Preacher Curls
    Hammer Curls
    One Arm Dumbbell Preacher Curls

    Day 5: Saturday January 2, 2010

Continuing to feel better and recover more quickly with Project Z although not much to report today...took the day off and was going to go see UFC 108 but my MMA buddy bailed on me because he said he didn't know any of the fighters which sucks because marquee names or not, it supposedly was a great night of fights.

I told my mom about Project Z today too...she's got some fibromyalgia and deals with muscle fatigue in a bad bad way and has difficulty sleeping often times too...I think she wishes she could've been picked

    Day 6: Sunday January 3, 2010

I'm supposed to start training with my new lifting partner on Monday, but I've decided I'm going to train legs solo because I've neglected mine for so long and really just want to do my own routine until I can bring them up some, so I'm going to train legs on Sunday and switch up the split I laid out at the beginning of my log.

My partner is this diesel Lebanese guy with pale skin and red hair...so basically a diesel Irishman with a Middle Eastern accent...but I think he'll push me so I'm hoping I can see some improvements in my bench and overhead press specifically.

Like I said, I'm training legs on my own for now, and hit them pretty hard yesterday considering the last two weeks are my first consecutive weeks training legs in a while...I won't say how long, but it's been a while.

    Leg Extensions 10x75, 10x100, 10x125, 10x150
    Leg Press (# of 45 plates) 15x8, 15x12, 10x16, 8x18 + 2 35's, 15x12
Hack Squats 10x2 plates, 10x4 plates
    Hamstring Curls 10x75, 10x75, 10x75
    Calf Raises

Following a leg day, I'm again significantly less sore than I would normally be which is great news again because people asking why you're walking funny gets old. After 6 days, I'm willing to say that the Project Z really has made a difference in my recovery time. I worked my chest hard a couple of days ago because I felt so good, and today am supposed to hit it again for the first lift of the week with my new partner, and while I might go a little lighter than all out today because I did work chest twice last week, I still feel good, and I still think I'll get in a good lift. I'm pumped about this product being released, and HOPEFULLY it'll be available by the Arnold so I can get my grubby little hands on it.

Hope the log is helping! Check back tomorrow!

    Day 7: Monday January 4, 2010

Let me just say that over the past week while taking Project Z I've had some weird dreams. A couple of bad ones, but nothing like family dying or anything that depressed me, but the kind of dreams where there's a bad guy and I have to kick some @ss in order for the story to have a happy ending. Last night's was just plain sad though...dreamed my dad heard that supplements killed people and came over and dumped my Intra-Aid down the disposal in my sink...wtf? Oh well.

Today was my first day with my new lifting partner and really the first day with a lifting partner that was worth a damn that I've ever had...

    Flat Bench Press (Barbell) 2 WU Sets @ 135, 10x185, 8x225, 6x245, 5x265, 6x225, 20x135
    Incline Bench Press (Barbell) WU @ 135, 10x185, 5x225, 9x185
Incline Bench Press (Dumbbell) 10x80's, 10x80's
Decline Bench Press (Barbell) 10x185, 10x185
    Machine Flyes 10x150, 10x180, 10x210, 10x225
    Rope Pushdowns 10x35, 10x50, 10x65
    V-Bar Pushdowns 10x65, 10x80, 10x95, 10x95 + 35 lb. plate
    Seated Pushdowns 10x175, 10x175, 10x200, 10x200

HARD chest workout...lots of reps to failure, forced reps...I was pretty spent after 30 mins. but I think the addition of a dedicated lifting partner is going to pay off. The Project Z is really paying off too...my chest is sore for sure, but I've hit my chest three times in the past 8 days and have had good lifts each day...going to give it a rest until next Monday though. Back and biceps tonight again, probably a little lighter than normal because I hit them recently, then off Wednesday and shoulders on Thursday.

    Day 8: Tuesday January 5, 2010

Weird dreams for the second night in a row...but I guess they keep it interesting so no big deal. I think what I'm noticing more than anything with Project Z is that I'm alot less sore the day after a workout than I normally would be. I've mentioned before that I had really slacked off with leg work in the past and that I wanted to bring my legs back up...I don't know if you've ever taken a long time off from training legs and then gone back at it, but for me, those first couple of workouts back on the program are brutal to get over but I'm two days out from my last leg workout and I feel almost 100% recovered. I'm going to stick to the once a week program for all the muscle groups except legs, and maybe try to hit legs once every 4 or 5 days which I feel like is totally doable with the effectiveness of Project Z that I've experienced.

Last night I hit my back for the first time with the new partner, whose got a pretty strong back, but doesn't seem to be super interested in many compound type movements for his back, so I may have to show up a little earlier than him to do some rows or deads. But here's what we did last night...

    Barbell Rows 2 WU @ 135, 10x185, 10x225, 8x225, 20x135
    Cable Rows 10x140, 10x160, 10x200, 6x240
    Wide Neutral Grip Machine Rows 10x120, 10x150, 10x180, 8x210, 20x120
    Reverse Machine Flyes 10x90, 10x120, 10x120, 20x75
    Lat Pulldowns 10x160, 8x200, 10x150, 10x150
    EZ Bar Preacher Curls 10x65, 10x85, 10x95
    Preacher Curl Machine (superset) 10x80, 10x60, 10x40
    Hammer Curls (superset) 10x30's, 10x25's, 10x20's
    Concentration Curls (superset) 10x25's, 10x20's, 10x15's

Normally I like to do lat pulldowns earlier in the routine but I think for the first couple of weeks we're both going to try different stuff and see what we both like to do and try to work with it. Nice overall workout though, I was happy. I'm taking off today (Wednesday) and then we'll work shoulders on Thursday. I'll check back tomorrow!

    Yo!

I'm liking what I'm reading so far... I'm interested to see if I have crazy dreams too.. I tend to dream pretty vividly especially when I take Nyquil! LOL.

I'm not one for training partners.. they tend to last all of a couple weeks before the motivation is gone and then they're on different schedules, or they dont know how to spot properly. Pshh.

Hope you're having a great day.

    Day 9: Wednesday January 6, 2010

Used today as a rest/cheat day which was nice...hit up Chick-fil-a and woofed down a couple of chargrilled chicken sandwiches and two 8-count nuggets, and had a 4 cheese Red Baron pizza for dinner which was phenomenal. I like good pizza but I also like garbage from the freezer aisle on occasion. 72g of protein in that pizza too so that was nice. I never understood why cheese pizzas always have more protein than pepperoni pizzas...like how do you ADD a meat product to something and the protein content go down?

Had to wait until like 11 or 12 to take my Project Z so my stomach would be a little more emptied that immediately post-pizza...but I took my pack and crashed. This morning (Thursday) I woke up and most (90%) of my chest soreness from Monday is gone, I'd say 60% of my back soreness from Tuesday is gone, and my legs feel really good too. I'm still going to stick to my split with the exception of legs. I might do some pushups or something kind of innocent on Saturday though just to get some blood into the muscle, I'm not sure.

Overall, my experience continues to be very positive, and I'm very much looking forward to some more news on the product in the near future!

    Day 10: Thursday January 10, 2010

Lifted a little earlier in the day and did shoulders...the workout was kind of rushed because both my lifting partner and I had things we wanted to do last night but we hit everything we wanted to, we just didn't rest or BS much in between sets. I think today we might do some light arm work and then call it a week. Routine last night looked like this:

    Shoulder Press (Barbell) WU Set @ 135, 10x185, 8x225, 4x245, 8x185, 10x135 w/ pause
    Shoulder Press (Dumbbell) 10x70's, 7x100's, 5x100's
    Shoulder Press (Machine) 10x120, 10x150, 10x180
    Dumbbell Raises (Superset) 10x30's, 10x25's, 10x20's
    Shoulder Shrugs (Dumbbell) 20x80's, 20x100's, 20x100's
Wide Grip Raises (Smith Machine) 10x25 plates, 10x25+5, 10x35 plates
with Lateral Raises using 20 lbs. resistance band in between sets

Today I'm not very sore in my delts, my chest soreness is gone, back soreness is about 80% gone, legs are totally recovered...I feel like I could start a new week tomorrow if I really wanted to and hit my chest hard again, but I'm going to stick with the split and go at it again on Monday. As people have said, the recovery has been really outstanding with Project Z...I can't tell you what a great experience I've had only 10 days into it...I'm actually really upset that 20 days from now, I'll have to go without it until it's released to the public. I've always favored Animal's delivery system (pills) over mixing powders and what not because it eliminates taste, texture, mixability as stumbling blocks for people and I think if people give this product a try, it will seriously take over the product category the way Flex and Pak have. I've used Flex in the past and had a good experience with it, but the 10 days on Project Z have been unbelievable. My new favorite supplement.

    Days 11-13: January 8-10, 2010

Nothing workout related to report...I was planning on working out on Friday as part of a light arms/close-grip bench/abs utility kind of day but I had to work on my car Friday night for a road trip on Saturday so I didn't make it. Saturday and Sunday were off days, and I ate pretty well, stayed up wayyyyyy late on Saturday night, still took Project Z though, so I haven't missed a dose, and slept like a log last night.

Today I'm back in the gym with chest and triceps. My body feels good, fully recovered from the week before for sure, so I'm looking forward to logging another solid week.

    Day 14: January 11, 2010

So my chest workout last night was garbage...really really sad on flat barbell bench, pretty good on incline barbell bench, and good with dumbbells. I think my shoulders and tri's are pretty strong, but my chest, which used to be a strong muscle group for me, is pathetic now.

    Flat Bench Press (Barbell) WU @ 135, 10x185, 10x225, 4x245, 2x255, 5x225, 8x185, 4 negatives @ 315
    Incline Bench Press (Barbell) WU @ 135, 10x185, 5x225, 8x185
    Incline Bench Press (Dumbbell) 10x80's, 10x90's, 10x100's
    Cable Flyes (2 Decline Movements, 2 Chest Level Movements) 10x60, 10x70, 10x50, 10x60
    Tricep Pushdowns (V-Bar) 10x65, 10x80, 10x95, 10x140, 10x165
    Tricep Pushdowns (Rope) 10x35, 8x50, 8x42.5
    Tricep Pushdowns (Machine) 10x150, 10x175
    Ab Machine & Ellyptical

Chest isn't too sore this morning which is becoming the norm...got some good sleep last night. I'm going to start hitting the cardio now so we'll see how Project Z performs with that thrown in now too. I'll probably start with just 20 or 30 minutes on the ellyiptical and try to gradually move up to 45 or an hour. But after two weeks, I'm definitely less fatigued the morning after workouts, and even though my workout last night sucked, I felt good going into it. I think it was just an off day, so I won't make too much out of it. Two more weeks of Project Z left, and I'm still excited.

    Day 15: January 12, 2010

So last night was the 3rd very vivid, very weird dream I've had...this one I woke up in the middle of around 2:30 but basically I was at a gas station by my house and my ex-girlfriend from wayyyy back in high school was at the pump opposite me with some other older girl and long story short, my ex had turned into a lesbian, gotten with this older girl, and was jealous because her girlfriend was still talking to her ex. Anyway...

Did back and legs last night and feel really good this morning...minimal soreness in both groups. I did alot of pulldowns last night and really don't have the soreness or sensitivity I normally would have after working something specific really hard kind of out of the blue. Also feel like it's easier to sleep...what I like the most is that when I do wake up in the middle of the night to pee or in this case, because of a dream, I lay back down and 15 seconds later I'm out again. So here was the routine from last night:

    Lat Pulldowns 10x120, 10x160, 8x200, 8x160, 35x100
    Hammer Strength Pulldowns 10x180, 10x230, 10x230, 10x180
    Barbell Rows 10x135, 10x225
    Machine Rows 10x150, 10x180
    Cable Rows 10x160, 10x180, 10x200, 10x160
Rope Rows...using the tower on its highest notch like you would for rope pushdowns, grab the rope and lean back, then perform rows...15x35, 15x50, 10x65, 10x80
    Leg Press 10x495, 10x675, 10x765
    Quad Extensions (superset) 10x100, 10x75, 10x50
    Hamstring Curls (superset) 10x100, 10x75, 10x50

    Day 16: Wednesday January 13, 2010

So I've decided to do a sprint distance triathlon in April with my girlfriend and have to start with some real cardio ASAP...yesterday would've been an off day but I decided to go in and train a little. I'm sleeping like a log on Project Z and not waking up groggy or "hungover" at all. Recovery is still great, and a little over 2 weeks in, I don't think the effects have diminished or that I'm tolerant of the product at all. My legs are a little sore this morning after legs on Tuesday, and 30 mins of interval training on the elyptical and 15 on the bike last night, but nothing too bad at all. I also did some really light chest work last night because my lift on Monday was so terrible. So I did some explosive reps with a 1 or 2 second pause on my chest.

    Flat Bench Press (barbell) 8x135, 6x185, 4x225, 4x225, 6x185, 8x135

I've been sleeping like a log, too. I haven't been waking up in the middle of the night as usual...
I notice its a little harder to wake up in the mornings, but once I'm up I'm good... no groggy-ness.
