I am 17 year old male at 5'5" and 130lbs. My max bench press is 230 lbs and I keep working on it. Where do I compare with other people? Also, kids at school say that the only reason i can do so much is because I have shorter arms than them so i don't have to lift the bar as far, thus making it easier for me. Is this true or is it just an excuse for the taller people?

its just an excuse.
your 30lbs from doing 2x body weight which is extremely good. no matter what they say they cant take that away from you. good job.
just focus on your lifts and dont let the jealous kids around you hold you back or think any different about yourself
(technically being shorter has its "advantages" on movements, but weight is weight and your lift is still mighty impressive)

i never noticed with bench but with squats i hated a kid on my football team in high school who was short.
My coach puts a band across the squat rack and you have to touch it every rep for testing. my friend was 5,5 and I was 6'1 we would pick weights and i would get 8-10 reps and he would do 23 reps. Then his squat was huge and best on team on paper, however he couldnt even squat my one rep max once....

It is harder for them, but nonetheless still very impressive for you.

I did 295 at 6'2 195, i thought that was pretty good. 230 at 130 is impressive period though, height doesnt matter for **** in power lifting, you will be competing based on weight class, not height/weight class lol.

Remember that being shorter does not always mean a shorter ROM... Arm length is not always the same proportions for everybody and chest size also can dictate ROM. Some tall people overestimate their arm reach...
Had a taller guy in high school once bring this up during BFS. I had a 40" chest then and was 5'4", he was 5'9" with a 55" chest. We both had the same 1rep max and he said his was better because because I had a shorter ROM. We both got on the bench and were measured (chest to bar) during the movement and because of his large chest and his relatively short arms for his size I ended up having the larger ROM.
While this isn't always the case, many larger people use this as an excuse for having low numbers compared to smaller people. If you have a guy who is a foot or more taller than you who has near the same maxes saying this, he has a point... but, if it's an idiot who cant even bench half his body weight, then he doesn't have a leg to stand on.~Coach Rick Sterling Tarleton

it obvi helps to an extent although its not an excuse to say o ur arms are short = ur automaticly stronger cuz alot of ppl at 130 are probly struggling at 135, i think the proper way of saying it is genetics lol, some people are just built better than others, but thats pretty damn good at 130, i was doing 250 ur age at probly 180 :/

Being taller makes it harder, well, if you have longer arms (bear in mind some taller people's arm span isnt always that much more)
to deny that is just stupid and ignorant
however using it as an excuse to not bench is just as stupid, because training is training, plenty of guys on here above 6 foot bench in the high 100's (adrenoline does like 470lbs at 6 2 or something)
reguardless, thats a good bench dudeI havnt updated my lifting stats for a very long time.
