He's 21. Definitely has a lot of potential, but unfortunately he isn't putting his all into training/competing, imo. He doesn't work, he's taking two online classes right now, yet he's always cutting his workouts short, or missing training sessions for bull**** reasons. He's also very heady. I was really surprised how focused he was in competition, cuz in training, once he misses a lift he's usually ****ed. Like if he has a bad snatch session, his C&J will automatically be ****. Gets way too emotional when he trains.

I had a pretty good feeling this was the case. I've been training with him at East Valley Crossfit for the last year or so.

Soviet style...high volume, medium intensity. Some variation of snatches, C&Js and squats 5x a week. Day 6 predominantly body building/general strength training, unless we're tapering for a competition.

How long did it take him to get to a 200 k FS? I'm trying to stick to more reps in the BS because I keep straining my back when I go for lower rep PRs. It never aggregates to a serious injury but I really wish it wouldn't happen. I haven't maxed out in the FS in a while but I did 320 several months ago. Since then my paused FS is starting to catch up to my previous FS 1RM. I've done 305 with a 3 second pause. The PP is with 312 for a 3 second pause but I missed halfway up (I hate everything). It's still a cool picture.

Basically the timeline is like this...he started training with me for a couple of months, tore his meniscus in a hiking accident and had surgery. I helped him through rehabbing it, and he moved to Utah. Trained at Praxis for a few months. Came back with a 95 snatch, 125 C&J and 165 front squat. That was in January. He kind of did some bs training for about a month, and then started training with me in Feb. Now those numbers are 112, 135 and 200 respectively.

Went back earlier into this thread to about late may/early june of last year back when I started weightlifting. Came across a page where everyone was going on about the Lu Yong 2008 youtube video and talking about how they watched it before training and how they reacted to his 3rd clean and jerk and ****. It's funny because that was like my go to video when I was starting for technique, inspiration, and motivation lol. I still watch it to this day.

Takano's book is pretty good, but he recommend certain amount of reps per month/year based on the Russian classification system, then at the end of the book he has a sample 20 week program that he put his lifters on, which totaled out to be way more reps than they were supposed to do, and he says they all got good results from it. He also doesn't really give a whole lot of rhyme or reason for the distribution of reps per week/day.

I also have Starret's book coming today.

I'm fortunate that I've always been really flexible, and that I adapt to new positions fairly easily. Everyone seems to be raving about Starret's book. The guy must be raking it in.

I'm thinking there's some kind of correlation with having short femurs and being naturally flexible haha..

Training today is gonna suck... Ripped open my thumb snatching two days ago, and it still hurts to use my thumb in anything. Now I have to go outside and deadlift and snatch and clean. Thinking about finding a substitute exercise for the snatches and cleans... any ideas?

tbh I think that ppl with short femurs don't need as much flexibility to hit the same positions. I am probably not flexible at all, just chinese anatomy.
