My question is about Planet Fitness obviously. I wanted to join this gym for several reasons, mainly because its open 24 hours Mon-Thursday and they have many branches that I can go to in my area. I am always moving around between NYC, NJ, PA, CT and MA and there's always a Planet Fitness not to far away from those areas I go to and like I mentioned before its open late 24/4 and the price is pretty damn cheap (20 dollars a month if you get the blackcard and you can bring a free guest anytime with that card to any Planet Fitness branch) and accessible.
On top of that, it is really pretty looking (which I honestly don't care about I prefer the more rustic, beat down type of gyms but those seem to be fading these days and are few and far between), and I won't deny this; the women. Its always a great place to meet some rather pretty ladies who are into fitness as well. However, despite the motto being "Judgement Free Zone"; it sure doesn't live up to that moniker. I looked at the rules for one place and I seen a lot of rules pertaining to the "meat head type". Like no grunting, no dropping weights on the floor, no screaming etc. Which is fine with me however, their free weights don't surpass 55lbs, and they don't allow push-ups on the floor? Excuse my vernacular but what the duck?
You can't wear bandanas, or anything that appears to "Meat Head" like. Which I think is ridiculous. I love working out and I workout hard. I don't grunt, scream, slap my face, drop weights and scream "light weight!". All of which is great and I seriously don't mind but I am afraid at this particular gym they'll exile me for being too hardcore in the sense that I lift heavyweights, and usually like wearing a beanie cap or bandana. It's just my thing to do that and I'm willing to abide by their rules but I want to know how it is and if anyone else has experienced this gym?
Check this video out too by the way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ6Or...om=PL&index=68
If it appears to the more "casual" person going to a gym for the first time, I might have to pass up on it. It just seems really convenient and the price sounds good.
I used to go to a Power House gym but they cut hours significantly and I can usually just workout at night which is not possible at the Power House I used to go to. Bally's is nice but too expensive and seems more like a "social hangout" then a gym at times.
Well, give me your thoughts on this gym please. Thanks.

Is Planet Fitness a good gym for "hardcore" fitness peeps?

The planet fitness I went to when I FIRST started working out only had dumbells up to 65 pounds and NO FREE BARBELLS AT ALL, all they had were THREE (3) smith machines, and the rest were just cardio equiment / weight stack machines.
(Although they weren't dicks and I'm pretty sure they removed the lunk alarm from that particular gym. Nobody yelled at me ever and I NEVER heard that alarm go off.)March 9th 2010: suffered a complete tear of the anterior talofibular ligament of the right ankle.
March 26th, 2010: Underwent surgery to reattach and repair the torn ligament.
April 9th, 2010: Hopefully getting stitches removed and able to limp around again.
18 weeks of Physical Therapy 3x a week, no Squats or Deadlifts or any other excess weight on my ankle for at least 6 months.
Goodnight, sweet legs.
Goodmorning, sweet bench and curls.

absolutely not, some don't let you DL but I do and others at mine do without any problems, DBs only go to 80 lbs though so that is a problem but other than that it isn't bad and for $10 a month you honestly can not beat it. There are two flat BB benches, 1 Incline, 3 smith machines, 1 rack you can squat in, leg press machine, hack squat machine, plenty of other machines, they have the barbells that already have the weights on them but they only go up to 60 lbs so if you curl more than that which most ppl here do you just have to use the e-z bar and plates.
I am weak enough that I never go above 75lb DBs on any of my lifts, can only DB bench 75s like 5 times and thats as high I go on DB shrugs.
All PFs are different though some of them have pricks working there but mine is not bad at all.

you can only bring guests to the location you sign up at (i used to work at a pf). Also in regards to the bandanas it's because a lot of the gyms had issues with people wearing gang colors, you'll see this at nightclubs as well. and one more edit it's mainly a gym for beginners and people not to serious about working out, which is why there's so many rules (although you will find avid gym goers attending too)

I joined last week...i like it. Not many people when i go. they have DB's that up to 75lbs. they have several flat/incline benches fo DB and have 2 benches with bar, an incline bench, 3 smith machines, 2 cable stations with lat pull down and rows, several machines for arms, legs, abs, shoulders, back. They also have leg press machine and hack squat, they have an ez bar as well and small mat area and lots of cardio eq. for just $10/month its great.
its a very good gym, most people on here that rag on it have never even been to one...although if you can easily DB press 75lbs then this place probably isnt for you.

getting mad about lunk alarm or getting called out on your douchiness
i think its a great idea for the lunk alarm or specific rules.Mainly the only people that are mad about this are those who basically are complaining about not being able to display being a douche bag and a show off.Really if your complaining about the ability of not able to showboat or the weights not weighing enough well then maybe ur too advanced for this gym and ur EXPERT fitness habits might be better aprreciated elswehere that suits your need to fuel your ego by grunting screaming or any other douchy move...JS

Seriously not even a gym. Any gym that has pizza night can't be taken seriously. They take pride in being a no judgement zone yet anyone that wears a tank top or has a gallon water jug is a "lunk". Pathetic excuse for a gym."You see, in life, lots of people know what to do, but few people actually do what they know. Knowing is not enough! You must take action!"
