Can you "bulk up" from just doing pushups and squats?

Silly question, i know. But my mate thinks he's getting bigger and he's bulking up from just doin these 2 exercises?
    Is it possible?

Well for one, pushups are more of an endurance workout than a mass building workout. Not enough upper-body volume, can definitely put on some mass with squats but your upper body would obviously be lagging in comparison.

pushups when done properly can build a very good physique

    hands in front of head
hand out to the side in line/lower than shoulder
    planche position

    all these target diff muscles

once those get easier you can elevate your legs to increase stress

keep increasing the elevation until youre doing handstand pushups

anyone that can do 10 proper handstand pushups is definitely not weak

You won't 'bulk up' amazingly from pushups, but pushups will increase your general strength and speed/endurance qualities. Squats are the best thing for building muscle on the legs (apart from quadricep curls), and they're excellent for things such as your vertical jump - should you implement correct plyometric work to train the muscle mass.

Squats are better than extensions by far

Weighted pushups maybe, you'd need to fill a backpack with a fair bit of weight though.

none of these guys have evidence. Ive seen a guy at the gym who competes and he told me at least 2 of his chest workouts a month are only pushups. and hes got a pretty massive chest.
The 2 most important things to me when training are 1. The Muscle Mind Connection. and 2. Intensity

There are only five exercises you need to get big. Maybe 6. Bench press. Military/Shoulder Press. Barbell Row. Barbell Squat. Deadlift. Potentially pullups. Pushups and squat is not enough.

Don't mock AC/DC man... just don't... but no, he should get himself a decent routine, and start eating.

I more or less agree, except I hate BB Row. Mine are Sq, BP, DL, SOHP, and a Chinup/Pullup variation.

you dont "NEED" any of these to get big, but if you are very strong on these 5 exercises you will no doubt be a large individual.

I'm assuming OP means pushups and squats with just BW, in which case the answer would be lol no.

    No doubt but:

-I find that DB Rows are superior for a rowing movement because you can go way heavier while reducing the involvment of the lower back
-Deadlifts and Rack Pulls and Shrug variations produce a thickness in my upper back that just heavy BB rowing wouldn't even get close to
-Pullups and Chinups are better for the lats/back width for me at least

Weighted push ups if your maxing out in the 8 to 12 rep range . Get a good weight vest. And until u do that do drop sets of push ups with little rest in between and you will really overload your muscles
