Anyone off today and watching the U.S. Open? Isn't Serena Williams one of the most impressive athletes you have ever seen?
Incredible speed, strength and focus.

she definitely got some deadlifter booty
Yorkshireman I: Right! I had to get up in the morning, at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill and pay mill-owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our dad would kill us and dance about on our graves, singing Hallelujah!

both the williams sisters are impressive athletes, and both beautiful women IMHO.
I never watched any tennis until they came up, they are incredibal competitors with a major drive. i've read that serena could be actually even better and maybe the best ever if she would take her physical training and diet more serious. i think she's got a great body and that arse....my god=0!!!

I have followed both sisters their entire carrear. Serena has more talent but also has outside distractions (don't we all!). She lives a bigger a live than Venus but who would not given her resources and all. If she would devote some more time to tennis she could be the best of all time. If not she still will be right up their. Good luck to them this week.

The Williams sisters come close, but the most dominant female athlete was Martina Navratilova. She was the only tennis player I ever tuned in to watch. She was so good it was like watching a man play against little kids. (Yes I know she's gay, don't care either)
Question: In a Martina (In her prime) Vs. Serena or Venus match, who would win?
I gotta' give it to Martina."Before Opening, Lift"

When it comes to actual matches though, I would imagine that it's just like real tennis. It could go either way. Over a career, if they had been able to play each other in their primes, Martina would win some, Venus or Serena would win some. On any given day in a tournament, the top seeded players can find themselves losing to an unranked player. When it comes to top players, as dominating as some may be, the margins aren't all that huge.
Overall as players, I would give the edge to Martina as far as having a more complete game.
I think both Williams sisters had the potential to eclipse Martina's career. For some reason, both of them were quite plagued by unforced errors in their games for years. They are both capable of some of the most amazing saves, but just as capable of blowing what would seem like the most routine returns on the professional level. I don't remember that being a problem with Martina. While I might give the edge of pure athleticism to the Williams sisters, Navritalova was quite capable herself and usually had a far more consistent game.
All the injuries and other ventures that took both of them away from tennis practice and training is probably another factor that kept them from being better than Martina.

I think they both beat Martina and this is no slight to Martina.
Todays players, the Williams sisters both and even others in the top ten like Maria Sharapova, hit the ball MUCH harder than the players of Martina's era. The Williams sisters serve consistently in the one teens, which is a good ten miles per hour than Martina hit on her best day. Their forehands are rockets. Steffi Graf, who was a contemporary of Martina, had the best forehand of her day, but it pales today even when you see the forehand of the 17 year old phenom of this US Open, Melanie Oudin.
If you doubt this, catch the occasional Tennis Channel shows which show old matches ( they just had a prelude to the US Open which showed highlights of Tracy Austin and Chris Evert's matches at the Open some of which had Martina on the other side) and watch the speed and power of Martina's, Steffi's and Chris' strokes. Its no comparison to today's players."People listen to rich folks. People they pray for poor folks"- John Thompson, long time head basketball coach at Georgetown University.

Interesting side bar involving Serena in this year's U S Open.
Kim Clijsters just won her quarter final match today. She beat Venus Williams on Sunday. If Serena wins her quarter final tonight, they will play in the semi finals. This may then be the second case of "Sister's Revenge" in this tournament if Serena wins.
Yesterday, Kateryna Bondarenko destroyed Gisele Dulko 6-0 6-0. Dulko in the first round beat Kateryna's sister, Alona."People listen to rich folks. People they pray for poor folks"- John Thompson, long time head basketball coach at Georgetown University.
