Hey guys,
I can't work out what this thing is called. It's a protector thing you wear on the back of your pads by the neck, but it's not a neck roll.
You can see no. 33 wearing it, barely, in the picture attached. Can anyone tell me what this is called? (Sorry I can't get a better picture.)

That one up there is actually called a butterfly restrictor, cowboy collars are more curved outwards while butterfly restrictors go straight up. Cowboy collars allow more movement of your neck, while the butterfly keeps your head straight up pretty much the whole time. A few kids on my team had them.

Well I'm a lineman and I never used either so I haven't personally tried them. I feel like if you have neck problems or worried about getting your head/ neck snapped back on a hit or block than you should go for the butterfly restrictor.
My teammate said it didn't restrict mobility (keeping his head on a swivel at LB) but just protected his neck/head from snapping back.

Oh my god! Last season we were playing one of the worst teams in the league, and they're defense was on the field and a see a kid playing conerback wearing a f*ckin neck roll. I laughed my ass off the whole game and the next day I was talking I guy that I know that plays on that team and I asked him why the hell was a kid playing conerback wearing a neck roll, and he said cause he thinks it makes him look cool.

The purpose of cowboy collars, neck rolls, ect.. is to prevent or treat a chronic or acute injury. THey are in no way meant to look cool or change the way you play. If you do not have neck problems, stingers, numbness, tingling, pain, weakness ect, you do not need any support.
They restrict movement and just add to the **** you have to carry around. If you dont need one, dont wear one. Keep things simple.
