My ring is hard to get off.
    I don't lift heavy- yet.
    I like gloves.

But ... it is much safer to take it off.

I have a cyst type growth on the tendon under my ring which was probably caused by wearing the ring in the first place. When I lift the preasure of the weight on my ring pushes on the cyst and causes my finger to hurt all the way to my wrist. For this reason I take it off before lifting.

My workout glove covers mine, so I'm not overly concerned with getting it caught. But it's already bent, so I've started removing it just to keep from completely destroying it.

Exactly why I remove mine. Plus mine is not a solid band, but three braided double-strands of tri-color gold. (Pic attached, although it's hard to get a good detailed shot).

Funny thing is that I just thought about this thread. I went to put my ring back on after lifting, and it wasn't in it's box. Then I realized the it was already back on my finger. Taking it off and putting it back on has gotten so automatic that I'm not even aware that I'm doing it.

    Well, thanks boys.

I was thinking of this thread when I took my ring off at the gym today.

I looked at it again tonight and I just realized the ring was still at the gym.

I take my ring off even when I do the treadmill. I just dont like it on. For some reason it distracts me. Its a large heavy titanium type ring and thats some of the problem..

BUT when I was in construction I was always breaking my normal ring, so the wife let me pick one out that wouldnt break.

Sorry. I have a very very strong constitution and there ain't much that can tip me over the edge.

    However......

I've just had fajitas. I've just thrown them up. Serious.

    Thanks Ed.......

In addition to this, I could help but see the irony in the thread title:

    Problem lifting with wedding ring

    If I wasn't married, I'd be lifting 6 days a week! Hehe.........

    Ring caused popped blood vessel

I recently did a set of deadlifts with my ring on, and later that day I noticed my entire finger had turned purple. As I was deadlifting, I popped the blood vessels in my finger. From the ring line to the tip of my ring finger it is completely red and purple. I would just recommend taking it off. Maybe eventually I will get a pic up here, but I will recommend not wearing a ring. Anyone else have anything similar happen to them?

My ring comes off before putting my gloves on and placed in the locker. Have caught it too many times on the locker door or something else resulting in blood blisters or cuts on my ring finger.

I have worked long enough in emergency medicine to know better than to wear any kind of jewelery, especially rings, while lifting weights or any kind of physical work. I have cut off many, many rings to save people's fingers.

I always take mine off. Gets bent. We have a rough short bar that scratches it up. Generally irritating when lifting heavy.

No because I take it off when I train. I can't imagine training with my wedding ring, it'd be destroyed in no time.

I just realized I haven't had my wedding band on for several months. Everything I do it seems to get in the way. I really try to remember to put it on when my wife and I are going out though. I sometimes forget even then, but I do make an effort. Between lawn and landscaping work at my house, taking care of my chickens, weight lifting, working on cars etc, I am taking it off multiple times a day, so I said screw it, I ain't wearing it unless it's a special occasion. If my wife doens't like it, she can do all that stuff for me...(I hope she's not reading this over my shoulder)

I take off my wedding ring and Gaelic band before any training. Have dealt with degloved finger injury twice in other people (type it into Google images to see what this is - I've not hit the 50 quota threads to post links yet).

Would also recommend that if anyone has those gym lockers keys which are on wrist bands that they don't wear them on wrists. Use to train a lot in indoor climbing walks and have seen countless fractures wrists and impelled keys wear people have falling back and naturally used hand to break their fall.

Interesting thread. I've worn my ring lifting since I got married back in college. (we got married before my senior year in college). My ring has it's own grove on my finger in between the calouses It's well worn down, thinned out, scratched up and bent out of shape but I'll keep wearing it at the gym...I never take it off, cause if I did I'm sure all the ladies would be wanting this hot bod! (my wife just laughed really hard)

    And I never wear gloves!

Definitely take the ring off. You could always put it on a chain around your neck if there's concern about losing it.

posted this on another thread as well, but the problem with a necklace is that they can be a pain to get the ring on and off. there is a special ring clip called a RingSafe that is built for specifically this purpose.

I've been taking my ring off for 30+ years. What matters is always putting it back on when finished. But for safety I stopped wearing mine after witnessing an accident or two back in the early 80s, one involving a guy wearing a necklace... nasty injury. No kind of jewelry fits into the weight lifting world, even at home in the garage.
