Aside from rest, what practices do you guys employ when nursing a back injury from, for example, a deadlifting-type of back injury?

I hurt my back moving stuff out of my dorm (deadlifting type of injury) and honestly nothing helped me other than rest.
To be fair I should have made a thread like this when it happened instead of doing what I did (nothing).
That has been...at least a year or two ago and it still gives me problems now and then.
Sucks.

Well I will try to be more clear with my point:
I could have gone to the school clinic and had some Tylenol thrown at the problem.
or
Created a thread to see what other people had done (outside of going to the doctor.)
but
Instead I didn't do anything to help it other than rest, and perhaps if I had I could have gotten suggestions from others and not had my entire summer ruined.

wtf is compression? How do you compress your back? Like jumping up and down to compress your spine or like a compression sleeve people use in the NBA for their arms?
I don't use NSAIDs
Monday. Deadlifting warmup... I normally don't belt up untill I hit 405 I guess I need to start wearing my belt at 315
I have to write a ~60 page document and I can't focus worth a goddamn.
I think that would at least take my mind off the pain for a minute or 5.

Since you don't use NSAIDS, just curious as to why, stick with Tylenol, icy hot, ice and rest. Compression is usually done by ACE bandages to strain and sprains. Mainly the joints in the limbs. Kinda hard to wrap your torso and breath.
I understand you not wanting to use them but maybe necessary to get you through your paper.Official Supp. Misc Beer Crew

If it is a spine issue - you can:
1) sit, holding your knees, and slowly rock back onto your back over and over a couple times
2) On the arm of the couch - lay down on it horizontally - on your back, and slowly let all your body go limp, then lay on it cross wise and do the same
If it is muscle - then hot showers, massage, rest, and pain.Misc Scotch Crew.

Okay, I guess I meant to say I don't use OTC painkillers as they don't have an effect on me for pain or headaches or anything plus I know NSAIDs inhibit muscle growth periworkout; I don't know about things such as tylenol but I always drank too much to use that anyway so it has now evolved to a personal choice I guess.
It feels like a herniated disc as I've done it a few times before when I played football. The injuries have always healed and never had any recurrences until I was hit "just right" or I hurt myself DLing which is now my third such DL injury at light weights but never at heavy weights
Anyway, I thought all DL-related injuries were spinal unless I don't know ****....

That's not possible. I can't bend my back really at all and even sitting still with my back as close to 100% straight as possible, it still fawking hurts. Any movement is quite painful, especially picking up **** off the ground... so I've devised a genius way which consists of me kneeling to the ground, then on all fours and picking up said items, then somehow working my way back to standing position.
I think I may just go grab my gym belt and rock that bitch for the next few days.

I recently had a lumbosacral sprain. Other than going to the chiropractor, epsom salt baths worked really well for alleviating pain and loosening it up. I'd put about 2 lbs of it into a hot bath. feels good man (no homo)

I did that once when I had a fractured ankle - needless to say, it was not pleasant.
I'll check it out. If it works, I may hook you up with some of those Gen-1 Bliss Shots I have
