No need to caloric surplus to gain muscle?

    http://www.scoobysworkshop.com/gainingMuscle.htm

I read this site, in which he is stating that for bulking you do not need to increase the amount of calories eaten but instead just space out the protein into 6 different meals. He states that calories are not what build muscles, but instead the amount of protein.

I am wondering if this is true, and since i am new to the whole bulking thing am asking the expert opinion of the body building community

im not trying to be a smartass, but....no. Stored energy builds muscle mass..ie calories....its the simple laws of physics. Protein is a big part of the equation but if someone is eating 1600 calories and 350g of protein, do you really think they are going to gain?

Yeah man you need carbs and calories too...But protein in my opinion is the most important ingredient. You can't gain muscle on carbs alone.

If you are working out intensely, your metabolism will increase after your workout. Your calorie expenditure will increase. If you are in calorie deficit, you are cutting. You need at least as many calories in as out (not as simple as I'm making it sound). That number is not static. That is why most take in excess calories. They want to cover their caloric needs for the day...whatever it is that day. But you don't need to get fat!
