    Question Returning to Rippetoe's SS after 5 days because of wisdom teeth

    Ok so i got all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed on thursday and so i missed my friday workout. Anyways the pain has mostly gone but my whole jaw/mouth is still quite swollen so i can't really eat anything unless its like liquid - and i lost quite a bit of my appetite. Anyways, i'm planning on hitting the gym anyways tomorow on monday and starting off where i left off. I was just thinking because my wounds aren't full healed yet and i still need to go back on wednesday to check up on em and hopefully get the stitches out, whether i should go easy and do like pussy weights? or start off where i left off doing last time's weights? Or keep going pretending i never missed a workout?

    when was the last time u took a week off?

    i'm on my week off now. i'm actually going to take two weeks off. hopefully i will still have the same strength, though worst case scenario is i'll be a week or so behind.

    edit: moral of the story is, don't sweat it dude... if u come back weaker, ur progress will be faster than it was before plus it may help u to break through any stalling which had previously occurred. it has for me in the past.

    i had one wisdom tooth out and i was fine 3 days later (eating a steak!) but i can't imagine how miserable u were after 4...!

    seriously man, just take it easy. i know ur worried about loss of gains, we all are! but ur rest is more important - i wouldn't go. imagine pulling a deadlift and ur stitches come apart prematurely or something

    True...but my teeth seriously seem ok. It doesn't hurt much so i wanna get back into it :P

    I was able to lift as soon as I got my stitches out, but this was only 3 days for me. I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out. Just take plenty of whatever pain pill they gave you and sleep ALOT the first 2-3 days after your surgery, then take it easy at least until you get your stitches out, or you can tear em out but that is uncommon and would require a heavy dead or something (as the above poster said)... Anyway hope this helps.

    Yeah i got em out on thursday so its been 3 days alredi. By monday it'll be 4 so i thought it would be fine. Haven't got my stitches out yet though - going back to check up on the wednesday. I won't be doing deads, just the workout B with squat, press, rows. Should be fin eyeah?

    I had a couple of interruptions while on SS(tooth pulled and flu). Both times I did just the squats and was able to pick up right where I left off on the other exercises when I felt ready. Good Luck.

    you took 5 days off... you will be 5 days behind.

    i'd just say minus 10 lbs off of your 5rm for each lift was before and build back up.


    leave your ego aside and start off light. its better to start off light and eventually set new pr's than to go in and lift too heavy and stall too soon.
