I just put some unground oats in my protein shake... Feels kinda weird at first but after 2 or 3 you get used to it.

Just go to the health food section of your local grocery store. Most have it. Unless you live in the sticks.

Brah, putting oats in a blender just gets you a shake that tastes like nuts (literally nuts, not ballsack) with tons of chunky tiny oats that sink to the bottom. So you have a terrible tasting shake and then you drink raw oats at the end.

I blend mine with a little bit of milk in a blender...then i add the rest of my items to blend up....the liquid gives it some viscosity to blend correctly

blend em up. and shake or stir your bottle once in a while so it doesn't all get stuck on the bottom. this isn't rocket science

I actually posted some pics of oats I grinded into powder with a $10-$15 hand held coffee bean grinder, nothing could be easier. I'll link to the post if I can find it...

How does the consistency affect the taste?

Sounds like you need to wait longer, or get a better blender.

I buy big bags of oats at a sams club and blend a bag at a time and just put the ground up oats in an old protein tub. That way I can just scoop em out anytime I want like my whey. It doesn't get any easier than that and it takes 2 minutes to blend a whole 6 lbs.

I make my shake (1.5 cups oats, 1.5 cups milk, 1 scoop whey) about 2 hours prior to when I drink it, and let it sit in the fridge. By then the oats have soaked up as much liquid as they can, and the entire shake has a much more regular consistency. It's still thick as anything, but consistent.

I use Arrowhead Mills Organic Oat Flour. It's fairly cheap and finely milled. Blends well. I buy online from Vitacost.

I read once that grinding them down to a fine powder effects the glycemic index of the oats which I suppose makes sense since coarse steel cut oats are often considered superior. I since abandoned the coffee grinder. I'll use them in a blender PW and even when blended they still require a bit of a digestive effort.
